Should EE tackle asexuality?

I think it would be really interesting to have a character come to terms with the fact that they are asexual and explore the possible areas they could go down in the afternath of this discovery e.g. depression. Its something fresh, realistic and reflective for the show.

Maybe this storyline could be carried out for Dexter?

What's asexuality? Is that when you have no sexual feelings towards any gender? It could be interesting that actually, see how it pans out.

Who's Dexter by the way? lol

Yeah its when you basically have no sexual attraction to either gender. You still have emotional feelings, but you cant express yourself sexually because the thought of sexual content doesnt appeal to you in the slightest.

Dexter is Ava's son, he arrives in the new year.

It wouldn't be very dramatic would it?

It can be. Some people have been resulted to depression or even suicide as a result of their desperation of wanting to change their asexual ways.

I always thought that Liam Butcher would be a good candidate- he's nearly 14 so he is of the age to be attracted to girls and since he hasn't shown any signs yet, this could easily happen.

Though being related to Max and Jack may put a damper on things as they cant keep it in their pants

They couldn't do it because then the character wouldn't be able to have an affair with someone or enter into a tedious love triangle.

    Or get someone pregnant;)

I'd like to see it but I do agree, asexuality has a danger of not causing much drama

Yeah but some people react to it in very dark ways. Its not to much about the asexuality itself, its more about how the character would deal with this which would create a dramatic impact

As I said, I'd like Liam to have that story, he is a virtually clean slate, his first major story and with James on an adult contract, he'd have more time for this.

    Nah.

To be honest, i refuse to believe someone is asexual unless they've had medical tests to rule out every illness associated with lack of libido.

It seems to be a new, hip way of describing yourself when you're not sexually active.

It could be done, but then you'd be asking soap writers not to concentrate on romantic entanglements, and they just don't seem to be able to do that with main characters.

    True!

At least asexuality would be an original story

It would be, and I don't doubt the initial story would be brilliant (obviously, if handled by certain writers). They could make it dark, they could make it compelling, they could make you really sympathize with the character... but as soon as it was over they'd be knocked up by Jack or knocking up a Mitchell a few weeks later. Unless the character left at the end of the story arc, of course.

Shame they introduced all these testosterone fuelled boys like Antler and Joey, they could have been onto something.

It would have to be a Branning boy/girl though because they are all at it like rabbits so would have a greater impact.

I just hope they don't bring Ben back as asexual. If ever someone needed to get laid, it's that guy.

Look what happened the last time he did that- though I'm sure he's having the time of his life now:p

Why would it be interesting its basically someone not having sex of any form, can't see anything thrilling or dramatic about that and sexuality type storylines are getting old if its been done once it been done loads of times, I mean unless you have a Sheldon sort of character.

Yes, lets bring Sheldon into EE, make it far more interesting.

I can imagine him and Kat:

    'I'm a dirty girl'

    'You look perfectly hygenic'

Emily had a miscarriage in 1972 - so no, not a virgin ;)
