RIP Captain - now at Grace Bros store 'upstairs' - no doubt they were expecting him to step out of that elevator & resume his position.

What a lovely image, I can just imagine him stepping out the lift and taking charge

Yes Nicholas Smith who played Mr Rumbold is still around, he is 79 now.

Glad someone from AYBS is still alive.

Glad Frank was around to see every AYBS series released on DVD. And a box set released too. So sad that he's gone now. :(

As someone said on here earlier, 92 is not unexpected. It's a very good age to live to.

R.I.P. Frank. I think Mollie, Wendy, John and Trevor will be pleased to see you up there in heaven. You're with them again, now. Also Harold Bennett (Young Mr Grace), will be there as well, as he died years ago.

A truly magnificent actor, gone from us. It's so sad to think that nearly all the AYBS actors are now gone. Rest in peace, mate!

I will remember him for -
    A) Mr A & R in obscure 60s groovefest 'Gonks Go Beat'
    B) The least convincing screen Dracula in an advert for a short-lived corn snack called 'Fangs'
    C) The Double Deckers driving Brains's latest contraption through his rose bushes
    ......and all the rest.

    What a bizarre headline:
    http://www.entertainmentwise.com/news/108648/RIP-Captain-Peacock-Harry-Styles-Mum-Pays-Tribute-To-Are-You-Being-Served-Actor-Frank-Thornton-

Harry Style's mum tweeting 'RIP' is headline news?
Can we not even report on the death of an actor these days without bringing Twitter and some nonentity tweeter into it?? Harry Styles mother ffs!!!

The first few series of are you being served are well worth going back to. Very witty and a good satire on the outdated working practices of the time. Pretty much after that it turned into pantomime.
