Getting a replacement Xperia U this week as my current one is faulty. Feels slow and laggy on ICS so I might stay on Gingerbread out of the box.

Anyone else agree? Anything I'll miss out on without upgrading?
if i was you i would keep it on gingerbread until sony come up with a proper update to fix the ics lagging on xperia u i have ics and it is slower it has improved abit with the latest update but is still slow.
from reading the sony forum there is going to a 89 firmware update that will stop the lagging so until then i would stick with gingerbread it ran better with it well at least mine did

god i hope your right!!! This last update did bring new problems though, particulary in phonecalls. I find now that that there is a 2 second lag in a call when it is answered. "hello, hello, hello" is usually my first words. also when an incoming call comes through the screen comes on with the caller info but the ringtone is a couple of seconds behind and i cant answer until it starts ringing, again with an audio lag.

But a different SOC, and a GPU which uses less memory.

I'm using Gingerbread on my Ace 2. Nothing wrong with it except some apps don't work with it. We're supposed to be getting an update to Jelly Bean this year though.

Can you explain that? I'm familiar with computer hardware but not an expert so if you can break it down a bit it'll be much appreciate.

Anyway, I just installed CM10 (4.1.2) on my old SGS original and it's smooth as butter. That's got a far older chipset than the Xperia U. I'm confident that the U can run ICS and JB very well but it requires better programming, I can't do it but those geniuses at XDA etc sure can work some magic!

think the question only relates to Sony xperia u users as it was recently updated with ics and lags terrible whereas it worked perfectly before with gingerbread.
