From word of mouth, I gather that Thames have submitted a proposal to ITV for The Bill to return for a special to mark its 30th anniversary (either this year or next depending on whether you go from. Woodentop as the start.)
I just wondered if others would be interested in seeing something like this, and the potential for the show to return? The sets are still there. I don't watch much ITV nowadays so don't know their exact schedule but possibly it would be useful to remake as a series rather than running all year round?
As I say I believe this is only a suggestion from Thames so whether ITV will be interested is another matter. I just thought I'd see if there was any interest in this idea.

Either way, I'd watch the show if they did a one off, just for the fact it's just that; A one off.
Where did you hear that
i think it could work in that format
Isn't that actually how it started thinking about it? It would allow them to make use of the sets, give the show some decent coverage and fill decent airtime, but equally the channel would have some flexibility as it wouldn't be taken up evening slots every single week.
Yes the first 3 series where like that
I'd like to see them pursue that then, particularly if they broadcast it in the more appropriate 8pm slot as opposed to the 9pm slot they had towards the show's end.
A series might also help them get more of the old cast back as they could continue other projects in the time The Bill wasn't running? I think ITV should seriously consider this.
Why've you used a comma as an apostrophe?!
It would be good to see it back on the screens.... but I'm led to believe Wimbledon Studios plan to dismantle the iconic set once the next batch of tours are over....
i am surprised that Channel 5 have not picked it up to have as their own homegrown drama which it lacks atm.
Doesn't one of the actors do one of the tours? (Gary McCann?)
Sure I read something recently?
From someone with a connection to Thames. As I say I believe it has been proposed but whether or not ITV (or another channel) would be open to this in some format is another matter. I hope so - and I don't think it's out of the question considering various factors.
I'd definitely bring back some of the old characters.
It would be good if they could sort things out with Jeff Stewart so as to be able to bring back Reggie Babe
(complete with Smithy of course )
