As others have intoned, the idea of Crook attracting not one, but two, attractive females stretches my credulity somewhat.
Enjoyable in a " is that all there is on ? " way.

It's not completely improbable. You'd be surprised how many people can "punch above their weight" from being a nice person.

Anyway, "Sophie" isn't really attracted to him. I felt so sorry for him getting "caught".

I really, really enjoy watching this.. the relaxed feel of the pacing and the subtle humour work well.

Mackenzie Crook has a very interesting mobile face, all cheekbones, teeth and eyes. Give me character over conventional good looks any day.
I too do not like the Becky character, all she does is patronise him, rather like I would expect Rachael Sterling to be like in real life - though I have absolutely NO reason for thinking that, so I apologise if any offence is caused.

I know Rachel Sterling and she accepts you apology as long as you promise to never insult her again.

I do promise that - as long as you promise to spell her name correctly in the future.;-)
I think it was the 'Dame' connection that put that thought into my head. (Need a slap own's head smiley)

Liking this a lot. It has a slightly sinister Royston Vasey vibe about it. And some cracking gags.

Toby Jones reminds me of the late Charlie Drake.

That's the biopic in the pipeline, then.

However, I have noticed that Rachael Stirling sounds like she's in a different show to everybody else.
She's louder & sounds like she is doing voice over work for an advert. Like she's reading off a script in a booth.

Think its deliberate for the character.
I know quite a few teachers and they often speak like somebody is taking notes ie loudly and s-l-owly, usually combined with a tendency to over-explain.
When you are used to them you think nothing of it until somebody new mentions it.

Watched episode three last night, and remained engrossed.
Great jokes, great performances, likeable characters, nice scenery, great music.

Massive knob / Has he? :D

A classic in the making here. BBC4 - Recommission it now.

I'd agree with that. Watched the first ep, then caught up on the other two on iplayer. Great show with great performances.

I've been metal detecting on a couple of occasions, last find was a coca cola can in pristine condition with a sell by date of 2003. It cost 39 pence. Just a bit of useless information.

I laughed out loud at the lemonade drinking and smile even now thinking about it. Yes it was a childish visual gag, but very well done.

I caught this by accident the first week and have been enjoying it too. What do we think is the farmer's real secret?

Yes, a very enjoyable show, some great one-liners too. Why do the BBC hide their best shows away on BBC4 ?

That actor is delivering the best "dotty old duffer" performance since Michael Hordern in The Missionary. Hilarious stuff - I hope they`re always in his fields.

I found the theme song on Spotify and must have listened to it twenty times last night.

I caught Mackenzie Crook talking about this on R5 a few weeks ago. I assumed it was going to be rubbish. Then forgot about it until I saw this thread.

Just watched it and it was excellent! Seen all three iPlayer episodes, and sadly only two left in the series (or is it three more? IMDB says 5 episodes in all, the EPG says 6 ).

Six in total so we`re only half-way through!

Well, it probably won't be his "missing" wife. There's something going on there, though, that's for sure.

Hopefully something that we won't see coming.

My father has been a detectorist for donkey's years and he tells me that the show is remarkably true to life as far as the details of the hobby go

Perhaps they are testing it out on BBC4 with a view to transferring it to BBC2 if its successful enough as they did with with Jessica Hynes' suffragette sitcom Up The Women.

That is true, but it still leaves some things unresolved.
