Isn't that the point of HD — a better clearer image:rolleyes:

    >sigh<

24 frames per second. Uk telly works on 50 frames per second.
24 fps is what cinema uses.

    More fps = better image.

Obviously but...why would BBC One be using a 24 fps source? You mean you're seeing a repeated frame every second?

Both BBC One HD and BBC One on satellite are true 50i for me (the former being ~12 Mbps).

They have applied a cheap drop-frame filmsing effect onto the lovely 50fps HD source, just for the benefit of the lucky BBC1 viewers.

When Kylie comes on I suspect many men will get up to 50fps! ;)

Yeah I think you're imagining it. Skipping frame by frame shows it's still interlaced.

It seems to depend on how people have their sound set up. Because my sound was terrible and I fiddled with the settings and it now sound fine.

I dunno, People complain there is not enough BBC HD programming with DD5.1 audio and when they do get it they complain about the less congested. more open soundstage with wider dynamic range that gives you.

You can alway switch to using the analogue audio if you prefer the MP3 / cheap tranny sound quality.

Smeary? Scooby Do? I blame pirate ghosts...

It's the OPs telly that's wrong. And 24fps is certainly not happening!

To be fair apparently there was an audio problem very early on which sounds like it corresponded to my initial theory that they had been transmitting DD2.0 flagged as DD5.1 but I never got to hear that as I have been Springwatching instead.

I can assure you that the BBC1 standard def feed had an imitation 24fps filter on the picture. It doesn't now. Someone has switched it off during transmission... I've been watching HD, which was unaffected.

I'm a video technician, so I know my oats.

Then you'll know that it would have been 25 fps - 24 fps cannot be shown on UK TV. I'm a REAL video technician, so I know as well!

I was trying to speak in terms that Mr Layman would understand, but of course I got pulled into a technical mire. Yes of course it was 25 fps Dur....
