'Bang tidy'

It's a sad world where you can't call someone 'bang tidy' online now without offending someone and being called 'misogynistic'. We should be allowed to find actors attractive and say we'd cast them if we were casting directors because they're 'bang tidy' as a blokey joke.

Does anyone else agree?

Bang Tidy? I haven't heard anyone use that term since 2002 when my brother's mate mentioned that he would put me in that particular category and my brother punched him on the arm :D

I'm obviously getting old. Had to Google this as I thought it mean you were just very clean and tidy.

I like 'fit' too. I use it interchangably with 'bang tidy'.

Who has said you aren't allowed to call someone it?

I think it's a ridiculous term, I hate it, but it's not misogynistic...

It's the sort of thing said by drunk young Essex lads who wear polo shirts with the collar up on holiday in Ayia Napa.

Can't stand the expression, almost as bad as 'rocks up' or 'rocked' (nothing to do with music).

I'd never even heard the phase until I went up North to uni. It's a bit silly but I wouldn't call it misogynistic.

Sounds like something a right winger would say.

I've heard of it, but never been sure what it means.

And what about "bang out of order"? Why do these phrases begin with "bang"? I don't get it.

I don't think he necessarily came up with it, but he's used it ever since he started doing Celebrity Juice.

It's a sad world if you believe that's what being a casting director is all about. :D For your information, the majority of casting directors worldwide are female. Roughly 90%, I'd say.

Seriously though, you know that saying it's a blokey joke doesn't automatically offer you immunity from criticisms, right? You are allowed to pretend you're a casting director that says 'bang tidy' whenever you like. It however doesn't mean it'll prevent some people from calling you out on it. Or laughing at you for using such a daft term.

I never realised that phrase was used to describe an attractive person! I'd been thinking it just meant "Great!", as with "Tidy!" (the catchphrase from Gavin and Stacey).

Why not simply call someone beautiful?

Because being beautiful does not automatically make someone sexually desirable. And vice versa.

We children of the 70's were far more developed.

'Bang' meant only one thing when referring to the opposite sex in those days. :)
