I'll be honest, at a glance I wouldn't notice. I'd have to look up the difference. I've never had cause to use a flag so I never thought to find out. Thanks for pointing that out.

It's the sort of thing you'd rather not know to be honest.

Yes it does. If possible, I always make it a point to inform whomever is responsible.

Nope. I reckon most people would still recognise It.

But would they know whether you're in distress?

It surprised me that a lot of people don't know that there is a right and wrong way.

It bothers me. Michael Bond was on the BBC news this morning. There was a picture of Paddington waving the Union Flag. Upside bl00dy down.

    Well he is from Peru.

Couldnt give two flying sh*ts to be honest, have people not got anything better to do than to complain about a tiny mistake, a mistake the vast majority of people would not notice / care about?!

    Damn, beat me to it!

The flagpole is of course on the right, and order is restored.

If I visit any office that's flying a Brit' flag in the car park and it's upside down I usually say start by saying "Are you in distress?" to the receptionist.
No big deal. It's just a bit of an ice-breaker and, hopefully, the receptionist will pass the message along to whoever puts the flag up.

    Erm, no.

    Upside down is upside down.

It wouldn't work very well as a signal of distress if the wind could change and cause confusion now, would it?

Flags can be seen from both sides. Since you can't see which direction the flag is flying in that picture you could be looking at either the front or the rear. If you were looking from the rear (i.e. the flagpole is on the right), it's the right way up.

    No, I have a life

Even if my life is just posting on DS, it still beats people who give a crap about something as stupid as this. :D

    No, you're right. Sorry.

    Just waking up here. :)

The flag is either upside down with the poll to the left or
The flag is the right side up with the poll to the right

Perhaps you should start a pole to see which one people think it is.

You don't need to see the flagpole. You can tell by the thick white bar, above the 100%.

If the flagpole is on the right hand side then the flag is the right way up. I think that's been mentioned a couple of times in this thread. ;)

Given that the flagpole cant be seen, we should assume distress.

To be fair, I've eaten in Wetherspoons and it's a pretty safe assumption :D
