I enjoyed the first two episodes much more than I thought I would so it's gone on Series Link for me.The description "gentle comedy" springs to mind and the locations seem to be just right.
I suspect that to date Mackenzie Crook has been maybe a tad more selective in his choice of projects since "The Office" which must have been daunting to follow up.Toby Jones otoh (who i thought was excellent as Alfred Hitchcock in "The Girl") seems to have been extremely busy and the two work very well together imo.
It was good to discover his pedigree too as Freddie was a class act so thanks for the info.:)

Not that selective.
As well as seeing him in films like Pirates of the Carribean, The Brothers Grimm, Solomon Kane, City of Ember, ironclad, Tin Tin and so on he's also shown up in TV series like Being Human, Game of Thrones, Demons, Skins and the like.
He's been a very busy man.
PS - and if he was being selective he really shouldn't have done Sex Lives of the Potato Men.

I love it when Lance is on the fork lift in the yard talking on the phone to Andy with a pallet that has fallen off...

I'm glad I only wrote "I suspect" there Rorschach and defer to your superior knowledge/research. ;-) I was only aware of two of those dogs.
Probably more to do with the names associated with it rather than the quality of the script.
It wasn't great but it wasn't that bad either. It's good that BBC4 is still taking some risks with commissioning even if this probably isn't going to be a breakout hit for the channel.
not a BBC4 breakout hit, like Only Connect and....
BBC4 isn't about making "breakout hits", in fact its about making things other channels wouldn't (in my opinion).

Yeah, I was thinking that it's taken until he now for him to recover from that!
I like that both temp jobs we have seen Andy doing - cleaning floors with a big machine and strimming the grass on the A414(?) - both require the same physical motion as detecting. I don't know if this is something that will continue next week but it struck me as a nice touch.
The only slight niggle is that I don't think Rachael Stirling fits. I usually really like her but just not sure about her in this.
Just seen episode two, and loved it as much as episode one.
I agree that Rachael Stirling's performance seems a bit out of line with everyone else. The scene where they were sat on the sofa and she was laughing at Mackenzie Crook: she seemed a bit OTT and forced. Only a small niggle, though. It has already become one of the current viewing highlights for me.
Swede surprise
What's the surprise?
How bland it is
Yes, that is bland
Surprisingly so

That laugh was so false,I know they were drinking wine but even so.
Finally watched the first two episodes of this last night and I loved it:)
I think Toby Jones is a brilliant Actor anyway, and Mackenzie Crook was every bit as good as Ricky Gervais and Martin Freeman in The Office, imo; it's nice to see him back on screen.
The rest of the cast were great too, and as has been said already, it's one of those gentle comedies that are just a pleasure to watch.
As others have intoned, the idea of Crook attracting not one, but two, attractive females stretches my credulity somewhat.
Enjoyable in a " is that all there is on ? " way.

'Do you like Swedes mate?'
pause...
'No, the vegetable'

I really enjoyed it, as I did last week.
However, I have noticed that Rachael Stirling sounds like she's in a different show to everybody else.
She's louder & sounds like she is doing voice over work for an advert. Like she's reading off a script in a booth.
It's a bit strange. She sounds at odds with the rest of the show.
Yeah, I was thinking that it's taken until he now for him to recover from that!
He's also written children's books.
I loved the Simon and Garfunkel jokes
One of the best observed comediesI have in a long time.
Unfortunately I think thete is more to young Sophie than meets the eye,

I know what you mean, but I wonder if it's to highlight the fact that she is the only "normal" person in the show?

Andy: "Has he?!"
:D:D
I thought so, see she let on to the antiquters before she noticed Andy was there.
Bang to rights.
Anybody know howmany episodes are planned?
I'm surprised they allowed it.
Not a bad programme at all, though the ending was rather predictable.
Another good episode and I'm glad they managed to do their song well.
Seems like Sophie is definitely sleeping with the enemy (even if Becky thinks she's sleeping with Andy....)
Mmmm. Lemony.
Enjoyable in a " is that all there is on ? " way.
