Did it refer to anything in the song?

From where I was sitting, it took up a good percentage of the dance space, added nothing to the dance and in fact, probably detracted from it.

Couldn`t see any point in it either

Aliona's choreograpy IS souless. Cold, clinical and lacking in flair. Also a bit tacky - just like that hair of hers.

    Downright stupid comment from Aliona

Aliona: "He works so intensely. Every single minute. The first and second day, I don't let him eat lunch. I don't even let him drink water. He would go for the bottle and I'll be like, 'Stay on the floor!'

Matt will get ill if she goes on like that. Stupid girl.

On reflection by stopping him eating and drinking she'll stop him winning through illness

I am sorry but I find Alionas choreography tacky and lacking humour. We have seen time and time again where choreography has won or lost the competition - think muppet gate (lost) and Camilla and Toms showdance(won). I dont think she is a great teacher - Aliona has great raw material in Matt and yet his rate of improvement has slowed/less than the other celebs. A propos nothing-am looking at Matt with new eyes after seeing him in eyeliner last week!-)

i agree with the statement in bold, he sweats a lot and needs to replace fluids otherwise he will get ill.

Sometimes its better to have a 5min break and return refreshed mentally and physically.

Before anyone disagrees with me and says this is an appreciation thread i would like to say i'm a fan therefore i care what happens and just want matt to enjoy the experience.

Oh for goodness sake, ever thought she might be exaggerating slightly?! One of them tweets quite a lot about going out for lunch/dinner together, and she's a professional, she's not stupid, she knows that during exercise it's necessary to take on liquids, so of course she'd allow drinks breaks.

So please stop with the insults against Aliona, I've never seen as many in an Appreciation thread. If you want to criticise her, there's a thread for that, but remember that the show is highly edited - what you see is never what actually happened!

Editing and exaggerating, I don't think for a second that was what actually happened. She's a professional, she knows a lot about exercise. It was her frustration at the fact that Matt still accepts so many jobs that she barely has any training time. She's doing a great job on about half the training time everyone else has.

I have to disagree with all the slagging off of Aliona - why have people taken against her so much?

Her choreography for the charleston was amazing as was the first week. And you can't really criticise her for the swing or props - they're not her ideas but the producers. They're encouraging all the dancers this year to use props and sets and make it more entertaining and less about just the dancing.

How do you know that? I'm not being sarcastic, I would really like to know. If the producers are truly responsible for the props, the lifts etc, and the dire, dire choices of music, then they must be deliberately handicapping Matt - they know that Len will childishly deduct marks for embellishments that he doesn't like.

The only link I could see was a mention to wild roses in the song, and the arch was covered in roses. Pointless prop though, just got in the way and looked tacky.

It's been well documented here and elsewhere that Moira Ross the new Executive Producer is making it more like Dancing With The Stars - where they get very proptastic, have lifts in virtually every dance and use more gimmicky music. The dancers do choreograph - though certainly not alone - but it's not like Aliona's building swings in between training and coming up with all these ideas.

Len doesn't seem to mind a prop as long as it doesn't interfere with the dance too much.

Personally? I think it has a lot to do with fans of Matt. They like him, want him to be the best and are surprised and annoyed when week in, week out he isn't and so they look for someone to blame and hey, there's Aliona right there next to him.

This was the first week I ever agreed with this thread. Before I just felt underwhelmed by Matt's dancing but this week I thought he performed well but I still was bored by the dance. I don't think the swing, the song and faffing helped.

I agree. I hated the swing and how there wasn't another space to move around it without hitting into it, so it just made the opening look a bit clumsy. And he is a brilliant dancer so I just want to see him get into hold and start dancing. Scott and Natalie's opening for the VW was perfect cos it was short, fit with the theme of the night and he started dancing quickly.

I think part of the problem is Matt is putting pressure on himself to be great. I think he is naturally competitive and is seeing kara and scott getting 10s and wants in on the action. i think sometimes being competitive can be positive cos it spurs you on but sometimes it can be negative cos it makes you tighten up and not enjoy the dance. to me, he didn't sell the dance this week cos he looked all nervous and worried. whereas he seemed relaxed doing the charleston and it was spectacular.

In terms of Aliona's choreography im not an expert so have no idea how creative or uncreative it is. But all i know is that i feel more excited watching other dances, esp ones by kara and artem and scott and natalie. Only Matt's charleston really blew me away.

Aliona's choreography is dull and uninspiring. She'll never surprise us in a good way with an exciting piece of choreography. I bet she'll start using Matt's gymnastics in the latin dances but in a crass and naff way.

How do you know that? No-one knows what she's going to do next week, same for all the other dancers!

What applies to Aliona applies to all the other professionals - they're there to do a job and make their celebrity stand out. If they choose different ways to do that, who's to say they're wrong? It may not be to everyone's taste, but it's clearly within the rules and it is working for some people otherwise Matt would be out of the competition by now. We won't know if her choreographical style (and I'm not calling it second-rate because I don't think it is, call it different, yes, but not inferior) is in any way detrimental to Matt's fanbase until we get further into the competition when even being one place higher in the public vote than a rival is absolutely crucial.

Could I just defend Aliona's hair? It appears to have magic qualites - in training videos, it always looks faded, then it comes to vibrant life on a Saturday. That amount of re-dyeing would cause most people's hair to fall out - I want her hair people!

Well, we all see something different. :)

I think Aliona is absolutely beautiful but her hair does her no favours at all. It's SUCH an unnatural colour. If she toned it down to a dark red it could be stunning.

I agree. She's stunning as a woman, but that hair just puts men off. It puts me off. That tacky colour reminds me, ahem, of a porn star or a page-three girl. Not nice!

I found it disrupted rather than enhanced the mood of the VW.

Watching Matt & Aliona dance precariously around the swing trying (and failing) not to disturb it made me feel edgy. They never really recovered for me. In retrospect, I think Matt spent the rest of the dance worrying about the end of the routine where they had to return to the swing. It was a slightly cringey end at that.

Liked the song choice though. It just wasn't used effectively.

I don't think the amount of fake tan she applies helps the overall look either.

She doesn't really have a choice in that one though! If she didn't fake tan under those lights she'd look like a ghost! And she certainly wasn't as orange as Artem and Robin in Erin's backstage VT

He sold the dance to me, but I do think that he hasn't looked himself over the past 2 weeks. It seems less than simple nerves about the dance, but more that he doesn't look like he's enjoying himself as much as before.

Perhaps this is because he's putting himself under too much pressure to do well, while having what appears to be the most insane work schedule of the celebs every week and thus the least training time, which can't help.

I hope that he finds his sparkle again soon, because he's a terrific dancer (whether he believes that or not) who fully deserves to get to that final. [I did notice in the AT week especially, that his reactions strongly implied that he genuinely thought he was in danger of being voted off, which is just ridiculous under the present circumstances.]

You see I'm a bit peculiar because I think I'd love that ghost-like look

Aaah, now I see the hair hate. When I had a similar colour (before I became a shrivelled-up old bat), I did it with no thought about what men would like. And, apparently, men don't like it. Feel my pain

Except the one bloke in the world whose opinion matters to me liked the fact that I played around with different looks. Anything I fancied was fine by him. Which is one of the many reasons why I have the best man ever...

I am a woman and I hate her hair. She is so beautiful and but the hair is just horrible. Someone said it is the same colour as some of the My Little Ponys and since then that's all I can think of when I see her. It really distracts me and not in a good way.
