MP4 Players - What are they all about?

My dad is a bit of a gadget man! He has most of the mod cons so am struggling as to what to get him for Christmas.

I have seen some MP4 players about but I am not too sure what they are:o:o:o

I clearly did not inherit my dad's "geekiness" (no offence meant) for gadgets etc and would appreciate any help. Thanks:)

    An MP4 player is just an MP3 player but with the ability to play video as well.

    A Player that plays MP4 video files basically. But some can handle H.264 and AVI, as well as WVM.

    Get him the iPod Touch - fantastic device, and should satisfy his geeky needs ;)

    basically any mp3 player with video capabilities can play em assuming its not a pos.
    that being said i dont think the term mp4 player is a common thing to use
