Real. He bit through his tongue bouncing about on a trampoline as a kid.

Seriously, why would anyone put that on?

He was born with the lisp but after the trampolining incident in which his teeth went through his tongue, it made it worse.

He reminds me of one of Hugh Paddick's characters in "Round the Horne".
    One for the teenagers :-)

He said in yesterday's highlights that he had a trampoline accident and bit straight through his tongue. He had an operation, but the nerve endings at the back never healed, leaving him with a speech impediment.

I wonder if it influenced his decision to come out

Another regular character, who had also first appeared in Beyond Our Ken, and who appeared in the script as "Dentures", was Stanley Birkenshaw, played by Paddick and characterised as a man with ill-fitting false teeth who was utterly incapable of pronouncing the letter S without spraying saliva all over the set

"Louie Spence is an English dance expert, choreographer and television personality best known as the artistic director at the Pineapple Dance Studios" From the internet.

Far from false I find him refreshingly honest and direct.

He was a professional dancer (in musical theatre and for performers including Kylie, the Spice Girls and Take That) and choreographer for most of his career, then appeared in the Pineapple Dance Studios TV show and his own spin-off Louie Spence's Showbusiness. He's also been a judge on Dancing On Ice, Cirque de Celebritie and the American version of that called Celebrity Circus.
