He just needs to find someone who thinks it's real and sell it on..... Shouldn't be too hard!
There's a market for fakes, just like anything else, if it's a 'quality' fake it's worth what he paid for it and more.
Only thing with this sort of thing is it's going looking for 'Delboys' and 'characters' people who keep parroting on about becoming millionaires, so there's some kind of narrative/journey.
They probably won't feature some of the people I knew from Greasby's and other auction houses, who are just quietly trading and making a living.
Those who are using it to supplement their wages with a bit of trading on the side.
Sometimes they get the occasional 'touch', but most of the time it's just rather routine, but with a bit of a frisson of the auction lucky dip.
There were a few faces I knew from the Auctions who were conspicuous by their absence, I suspect they were trying to stay well away from the cameras.
I suspect we'll find nothing out about Jamie the jewellery man at Greasby's and how he makes his money.
I was only in it for electronics, but always had a browse at the Watches and Jewellery.
I'm always tempted by Watches, but can't wear them, I just break and lose them.
If I'd bought those prints Nicky and Richie bought in the previous program, I'd have kept them, but I don't have anywhere to 'show' them.
It's a waste of time bidding on jewellery, watches, gold etc at my local auction, run by a well known t.v. antiques expert, because there is a ring operating which buys most of the good stuff. If you go to the local pub afterwards they will be sitting round a table having a divi-up.
I've been at the auctions when some 'loon' appears to be paying mad money for every case on offer.
I'll wait and see what the chess set is worth, it's nice to look at anyway.
I wouldn't get far trading in art/antiques, I'd want to keep so much of the stuff that would attract my attention.
The guy was deluded. Expert tells him it's not worth much, he just says he knows the guy's wrong. Surely simple logic would tell you if the chess set was a mixture of different artists' work, it's not going to be an original work by any single one of them?

I think on the balance of what we've seen that the bloke's having a stretch, especially with some of the values he's bandying about, in the millions.
Art experts have been known to be wrong though, so his word isn't, the last word.
Why doesn't the chap find a few more dealers who specialise in modern abstract and see what they think.
He wasn't forthcoming on the how much he paid for the chess set though.
I do wonder sometimes if the people featured on this sort of thing are been led by the nose or prompted by the those behind the camera.
I've met a few of those who trade via the auction houses, not one has mentioned been a millionaire.
How many Antiques or Art dealers go on about becoming millionaires.
No, you're right, it wouldn't work if you made a joke about black people coming over here and stealing would it? There would be uproar if that were broadcast on TV.
As has been said, why bring a person's colour into it? If he made a profit on something all well and good, but saying he was happy because he got it off a white person is borderline racism. But racism only tends to work one way.

The couple with the Hearse are clueless aren't they?
Drive to France and feel chuffed with yourself for getting something that may turn a £30 profit!
She seems obsessed with how many hundred percent she's made but scrapping around to make a £2 profit here and there isn't going to get you far. She just bids on anything that she has the cash in her pocket for it seems
^^ Yep, I like the way she throws these 300%, 400% profit margins around, but doesn't seem to factor in any expenses!!
The helmet was quite a good buy, had it had it's liner and decals it would of been worth £400 too £10,000 depending on which regiment it belonged to and wether it was "war worn:. It looked black so it was probably a firemans helmet and not a military one.

I think she's found a way of making things sound better by throwing those margins about.
Sounds better than saying, I made £5, cost me £20, that just points out how little 'real money' their coming away with on each deal.
I thought those helmets would be ten a penny in that condition and the only way he'd make his money back would be someone buying it on a daft whim.
''I went round tellin' all the brothers and sisters: ''I got something back from the white man!'' hahahaha''
Hmm, try getting BBC to air THAT in a white/black role reversal.
My thoughts, exactly. Why is it that, if a white person used those terms, it would be racist, but a black person can say it, and no questions asked? Double standards. I hate racism, but it isn't just a white on black thing. I would go so far as to say, and I don't think I'm being racist, that black people are, generically, more offensive.
Going back to the show, there are none so blind....why Ernest wouldn't believe the expert, of course it was a repro. He wasn't going to buy a genuine Charles Moore, for the price he paid, at an antiques fair. He's living in a dream world.
Don't think white peeps are allowed to feel offended by racism from black peeps Louise.
Soon as he said that I hoped his chess set would turn out to be a bunch of fakes. Did we hear how much he originally paid for that chess set? Really nice it was too have to add.

I wasn't going to watch.
Seems like we might get away from the Del boys 'we'll be millionaires' types.
Edit: Oh dear the Hearse duo on France, I'm cringing
I've decided: This woman IS Gerald Ratner's daughter.
I'll wait and see what the chess set is worth, it's nice to look at anyway.

I think he's overpaid for that too.
The Chess set is interesting though, as a 'story' going to see the foundry chap.
Good gawd, a stainless manhole cover, it's not even an interesting old cast one.
Edit: Well shut my mouth, he actually made something on the helmet, I thought it was a £20/£30 item all day, rather than the £100/120 mark.
Hmm, try getting BBC to air THAT in a white/black role reversal.
No, he said he bought it for £85 plus auction fees = £105. Sold it for £120 = £15 profit.
He didn't mention any sellers fees though?
Okay episode but preferred the Wallys in the first one.
He set in context of centuries of white people taking African gold, diamonds etc. no problem there, surely?
Well the joke wouldn't work in reverse would it?
You've never heard a Greeks and the Elgin marbles jokes then?

The bloke even explained it and you still don't 'get' it.
Hey ho....

You'll also be accused now of 'not getting' it.
