Odd year major sporting events
Has anyone else noticed that most major non-annual sporting events are held in even numbered years? Since the Ryder Cup was postponed after 9/11 the World Athletics Championships are almost the only one held in odd numbered years.
Given the congestion wouldn't it make sense for some events (such as the commonwealth games) to move to odd numbered years when they might get greater media attention rather than be overshadowed by the Olympics and World Cups?

World Athletics Championships next year.
Many athletes would simply drop out of the Commonwealths for the Worlds.
Using athletics as an example because it's one of the major parts of the games.
It's probably the same for other events.
