Gary Glitter - would social media have exposed him sooner?

All the reports about Gary Glitter's 'Sssh' gesture to Roald Dahl's daughter on This Is Your Life back in 1992 makes me wonder if social media and catch up TV would have played a part in exposing him back then had the technology been around, I reckon eagle eyed viewers would have no doubt posted about Glitter's 'Ssssh' wondering what he was doing that for then it would have spread to the rest of the public and the media then the publicity would have resulted in police questioning the fallen glam rocker. Who knows?
