But Cameron does have the money. If he and that flocker Osborne can afford the £90 billion HS2 white elephant monstrosity then they sure as hell can afford to protect and ring fence Northern Ireland's budget.

    £90billion

Try £43 billion including the overspend contingency.

Also that amount is spread of 15 - 20 years.

On top of that much of that money will be borrowed against profits from the fares that will be collected.

And on top of that the vast majority of the spend will be going in the UK economy to create permanent infrastructure.

I've got to the stage where I can no longer give a toss about Northern Ireland.

I felt optimistic for a while when the treaties were signed and the executive formed but their ability to look ahead lasted minutes because they are all too obsessed with the past.

If they can't grow up I just wish they'd all **** off

The answer is to get the stinking Tories out of power in 5 months time,
then we can hopefully get back to being a successful thriving United Kingdom again.

A "penny pincher" or "miser" is someone that has money but doesn't spend it.

No it is someone who gives or spends money grudgingly. But considering it is not his money anyway there is nothing he can do about spending it.

2009 was 6 years ago. If you're referring to the global financial crisis, then it's the Tories' fault that we still haven't recovered from it.

My belief is that if the Tories had still been in power between 1997-2010, the troubles in NI may never have gone away, we'd still have inequality for women & LGBT community, bigotry and discrimination would still be rife (though they're coming back now, after 5 years of Tory rule), the NHS would've been privatised years ago, there'd be no free education, Scotland would've gained independence, and I along with millions of others would've emigrated.

Ahh, a typical Tory-like bullyboy ad hominem response.
Thankfully, the Tories weren't in power between 1997-2009 and all being well, after 2015 they won't be in power ever again.

That's according to Sinn Fein's John O'Dowd who has explicitly stated that there would be no deal if Cameron doesn't hand over more money.

    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-30440229

Bang goes the corporation tax dream.
Bang goes any hope of a deal on flags and parades.
Bang goes the futures of the young people of Northern Ireland.

Sinn Fein need to suck it up, and agree a deal on welfare reform and the budget so we can all move forward with re-balancing our economy away from the public sector.

It Its nice to see both parties united in condemnation of Cameron and threat to hold back 1 Billion if a deal is not made .......now if only they could reach a deal on welfare
flags and marches then the UK government will give them the money that has been promised . To see the Republicans and Unionists both blame london for their inability to agree is baffling

Can't stand either of the main party's but at least the Dup realize that cuts have to be made while sinn fein are still in cloud cukoo land with their spending demands

People forget that Sinn Fein were formed as a socialist party and still are. They are high in the poles in the the Republic due to their stance against austerity . There is the possbiility that Sinn Fein will form part of the next government in the South. :o ..Ireland has been through several years of austerity and now that there is light at the end of the tunnel it looks like a high spending Sinn Fein may wreck it all .

And so says the vast majority on the mainland.

They are like a bunch of schoolkids.

Can't we just perforate it along the RoI border and let it drift off into the Atlantic?

Nope, I'm not taken in by the PR rubbish that's being put out by the HS2 campaign not least because it's a greed-fest vested interest:

The high speed gravy train: HS2 boss wants to hire 30 people on more than Prime Minister's £142,500 salary
Opponents of the costly HS2 rail project have reacted with fury after its boss said he needed to hire at least 20 to 30 people on more than the Prime Minister’s £142,500 salary in the next six months. Sir David Higgins, chairman of the taxpayer-funded high-speed rail scheme, said it would be wrong to ‘skimp’ on employing workers for the £50 billion project. But MPs today said the project had turned into a ‘glorious gravy train’ and accused bosses of showing ‘complete disregard’ for those having to stump up the money. Sir David, who himself is paid £597,000, said it was ‘absolutely essential’ to pay more to get the right people for the jobs.
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2680819/The-high-speed-gravy-train-HS2-boss-says-wants-hire-30-people-Prime-Ministers-142-500-salary.html

The nominal cost of operation extravagance is £50 billion but it gets much worse at that. The National Audit Office has produced numerous reports (worthy but on the dull side) on the spending on huge government infrastructure projects. They always find huge cost overruns and the average cost overrun is around 80% of the intended original project cost.

That mean the real cost really will be £90 billion at taxpayers' expense. The country is still running a budget deficit, it has a huge national debt and it just cannot afford this loony tunes scheme.

That this dispute has united all the main Northern Ireland parties, including Sinn Fein and the Democratic Unionists, in condemnation of Cameron is a very clear sign that their concerns are justified and that Cameron made no serious effort to reach a compromise as illustrated by his early flouncing out.
