I think it's a bit of a cultural/upbringing thing for me. I'm not saying it's wrong or anything, good luck to those that do, however I'm not sure how I'd feel about keeping someone I loved in a pot.
Still, my views may well change on such things, they often do.
I think it possibly good to have a place to focus yourself toward a lost love one: be that a grave, place or a urn. But then again... it's perhaps never easy no matter what way you do it... whatever those involved think best I guess... and my condolences to them.

While missing her horribly I find it very comforting keeping a keepsake urn of some of her ashes on my bookshelf .
My Mum's in a little urn on the bookshelf that holds all my recipe books, it's nice because she used to love to read and cooked a lot We scattered the rest of her ashes near Stonehenge. We weren't freaked out by it though, just surprised by how heavy the ashes were.
