Searching for friends on PS4 returns 0 results ?

I'm trying to search for a friend using their PSN via the PS4 friends option. Regardless of what I type I always get 0 results UNLESS I search for a friend I already have connected to.

How do I find my friends I haven't connected to yet ??

    I thought you had to put in the exact PSN name to bring up a person. Is there a chance you're inputting the wrong name.

    Like mine is Little_Ifrit. You wouldn't find me by just putting in Little and hoping to bring up all the names that have that in it.

    Try downloading the official Playstation app to your mobile & adding them through that

    Tried typing in the name of someone i played against and nothing. 2.03 is supposed to be out today which is said to improve usage of some apps.

    I had the same problem too - my first night on PS4 online so have no friends and couldn't add any.

    Yip...it's all in the same search box though.
    Apparently the issue I described is a result of a maintenance period
