Our favourite number ones of the 80's - 1981
1980 RESULT
Watch out for Aneka! I've a feeling Japanese Boy may be one of the three. Blondie's Call Me was omitted somehow from the 1980 poll and so makes an appearance here.
Use your skill and judgement to pick the best three from '81
Blondie - Atomic - 30 - 32.97%
Abba - The Winner Takes It All - 27 - 29.67%
David Bowie - Ashes to Ashes - 26 - 28.57%

The quality doesn't seem quite as good as 1980 but still not a bad selection of tunes.
Blondie - "Call Me"
John Lennon - "Imagine" <--- token #1 when I was born vote!!!
John Lennon - "Woman"
The Specials - "Ghost Town"
Soft Cell - "Tainted Love"
The Police - "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic"
Queen and David Bowie - "Under Pressure"
The Human League - "Don't You Want Me"
Of those I'd say my top 3 are; 1. Don't You Want Me, 2. Ghost Town, 3. Under Pressure
The Police are an odd one because their style of reggae/pop (??) has never appealed to me, but I like Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic. On the flip side, I never got the appeal of Adam & The Ants at all.
Should have been Vienna.
I chose Buck's Fizz (stop laughing please, lol), Michael Jackson and Smokey Robinson, as these were some of the very first singles that I ever bought. These are special songs to me and they still have the ability to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, even when I hear them now. I could quite easily pick more songs from this list that I also love, but these three are my real favourites. In fact, there aren't many songs here that I really dislike, so it was a very hard decision!
I eagerly await the list from 1982 now! These threads could run and run...
I've bookmarked you in case I ever need a reference. Seriously though, this was the plan, a poll each month until October and then a grand final towards Christmas with the thirty best songs chosen by us battling it out - how does that sound?
Specials
Adam & Ants' Prince Charming
Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin
Police
Human League
Queen & David Bowie
However I voted for
Imagine - John Lennon
Stand And Deliver - Adam And The Ants
Ghost Town - SKA fresh from my home town!
I think Ghost Town is one of the most defining songs of the early 80s. It was very representative of what was happening in our country thanks to a corrupt government.
36 years on and nothing has changed.
That's why I regard Going Underground by The Jam as another political slice of genius. It also contains my favourite lyric; "the public wants what the public gets" because it is so painfully true, and still applies 36 years on.
Not as good a selection of songs as the 1980 poll, but still plenty of decent stuff there.
1. Those I Love
2. Those I Like
3. Those I Don’t Mind
4. Those I Dislike
5. Those I Detest
“Ghost Town” is the only one in the first category, so is the only one I’ve voted for.

I'd certainly agree with that but Ghost Town is just... maybe it's me but I don't get it.
I think as others have proved, you are able to vote for as many as you like. I could not see a way of restricting the choice in settings, only the option to make the poll multi-choice. I liked personally people to choose their best three but certainly don't object to the number of votes - if you think there are more than three worth voting for, fill your boots I say!
Adam and the Ants - Stand and Deliver
Shaky - Green Door
Adam and the Ants - Prince Charming
