No you are right of course, but it negates Sky's argument irrespective of its owner.
Ok, I'll use Netflix then as a basis for my argument. Netflix can do it, Sky say they can't or are having trouble adapting Sky Go.
Yeah Netflix pretty much works great on every platform I have tried it including games consoles and AppleTV.
I can understand fragmentation in the sense of low power devices not being able to smoothly play the video but if people can make apps for PCs with all the different screen sizes, processors, GPUs... then why can't they do the same with Android?

It's a different set of circumstances though. Sky want to disable the video output options of devices to prevent you connecting it to an external display. This is why Sky Go needs to be tailored to individual devices.
Android's developer support for external displays and mirroring is only just starting to mature, and at the moment something as simple as disabling mirroring cannot be done easily. It requires a device-specific solution.
On iOS it's less than 10 lines of code and works on all devices.

Users can connect an HDMI cable from their laptop to their TV though. Why pick on Android?.

They aren't picking on Android. It's the same policy across all mobile platforms. It's just significantly more difficult to implement on Android.
As for why it's mobile platforms only, that will be a rights issue. Rights owners view mobile devices and computers differently and charge separately for these broadcast rights.

Ok, so pick on Android was a little woe is me.
I thought the idea of Sky go was to be on the go. The vast majority of users will not want to cart around an external display.
Still cant see how a company like Netflix can organise a good and proper rights package and Sky can't.
i noticed that despite saying it's battery only lasted half a day, and it was not good for phone calls they still only gave it one less point than the others.
If i were to buy some stickers/tags can i 'write' to these with my Gnex or do i need something PC/USB to get them to function ?
im getting a cheap 'dock' for my phone at work and a sticker on that saying 'change to silent' would be a good starter use for NFC i guess
Could you not use an app like tasker, automateIT etc to do the same? I would have thought using geofencing would be a better approach to your problem. i.e. you set one of those apps to set to silent when inside a particular radius, in this case your work place.

Yep ive tried that with Llama (and i think tasker a long while back).
1- i found them a bit of a battery hog
2 - i want it to be a bit more specific (ie when in the cradle on silent but when walking round on normal)
3 - the app option doesnt involve stickers - and as we all know stickers are good

just fancy a play with something new tbh
They are a fun toy, and i'm only going to use the one in my car now because its mobile.
How did you set the location? On tasker (i decided to buy it the other day ), there are a couple of ways to setup location based "profiles". Through GPS is the battery killer, but you can scan the local mobile masts which takes up little to no battery life, because your phone is scanning those already.

Can I ask a question. My understanding was that you need to "tap" the sticker, so putting it in the cradle would be fine, but just taking it out would need you to at least tap the sticker again.

Have i got that wrong?
I'm not sure what you main by tap, but you just hold it near.

What I mean is you have to make and break the contact. So if you put a phone in a cradle with an RFID it would register. If you then took it back out it would not carry out any action as it has not registered again. I may be wrong, I'm going by the way oyster and contact less payment seem to work.

So it is a wholly HDMI out issue then?
we're both going to try to send a text message whilst bungee jumping. and the one who does best will be the best phone.
I noticed this. Makes the app hopeless.
Samsung Smart TVs can be controlled via an Android app without using IR.
Is this full control (i.e. change brightness, volume, channel, input ports) or just channel or volume change?
I would assume these tvs would have to be connected to the home network.
Yes its part of the network. It allows most functionality including replacing the awful on-screen keyboard
Or iOS.
what would the iphone have to do to score less.
"Apple Maps use in Australia has been discouraged by police after dozens of motorists were left stranded in the wilderness."
They should send the bill for rescue operations to Apple.
RFID noob question then.

cool
i'll just buy a bundle of stickers and give them to myself for xmas
Anyone have a cheap source ? ebay seem to be about £1 a sticker ....

Sky News App on WP7 has live Sky News TV. Why can't they get Sky Go working then.
