Jason & Edyta
Liked Edyta's very minimalist coral costume. But who "designs" Jason's wardrobe - seemed very casual, again. Didn't think this performance had the fast fun element of cha cha. Jason's slowing rotating hips might have impressed some, but they weren't cha cha. Fast moving dances are hard for big men, so presumably Edyta had chosen this choreography for that reason. Jason looked crestfallen with the scores. I thought the scores were fair, if not high.

Shannon & Derek
Slightly odd dress Shannon was wearing. Nice hair arrangement. Really enjoyed the performance, almost balletic poses at points. It might have been lacking in hip action though that didn't matter for me (Shannon doesn't actually have very broad hips).

Marlee & Fabian
Cool tiger half-a-costume Marlee was wearing. Though the performance was not as lose and exciting as last week's samba.

Christian & Cheryl
In the pre-dance clip I liked it when Cheryl got pulled into the pool.

For the dance, Christian looked very smart and suave. With all those boas Cheryl seemed overdessed. Cheryl has often been over-dreessed this season. Foxtrot is a diffcult dance for a man, and this was very competent.

Len's joke about showing his bum in the Supermaket had already been used on SCD, interesting that here, he didn't mention a Supermarket name "show my bum in WallMart", which had caused the joke to be cut on SCD.

Marissa & Tony
Designing a flattering costume for Marissa seems to be hard - her look seemed more Grecian than Vieneese. In the practice they said it was all about twirling - hence the trapeze practice - but after the first few seconds there wasn't much continuous twirling in the performance. Did't care for this vocal arrangement of Delila.

Marissa's reaction when she got 9's! Now that's someone who is highly emotional and who shows it.

Kristi & Mark
Not keen on the costumes. I always have very high expectations of this couple technically. I thought the synchronization and flicking could have been more precise. And almost continuous fish-mouthing from Mark. It was good, but I don't think it deserved 3 10's. Was this performance as breathtaking as Jill Halfpenny's. I don't think so. I felt it was a "soft" jive.

Mario & Karina
Interesting dress Karina was wearing, handkerchief elements of Shannon's. The way Karina's was tied at the hip accentuated her hip movements, which were terrific. The entire performance was hot. We said last week how difficult rhumba normally is for male celebs. Mario did a very convincing job. Len's "strumpet and gigolo" comment was unpleasant (the thoughts in Len's mind so often seem to have seedy origins). Even so, after deducting 1 mark, the performance still got 9's, and a 10. Well deserved.

Group Dance
This seemed a lot of fun for everyone. Cool lineup at the start of all the women bobbing away in shorts. Strong of Shannon to throw Derek through 360 degrees. Tony struggling to lift Marissa. Mario did a very competent lift. I was waiting to see Edyta throw Jason, but that didn't happen.

Results Show
Ashlee Simpson - the accompanying dancers were good. They were not the regular pros, but apparently at least one (Artem) came from "So You Think You Can Dance" - a good possible source of fresh pros for future series - and/or SCD?

Riverdance - not too keen on watching male solo dancers - the group number was OK - with those fast precise foot actions, they'd be good at jive.

Slightly shocked that Mario was in the bottom two after that rhumba, and high judjes scores, maybe the public throught they were safe, and didn't bother to vote (worrying).

On second thoughts, it might not have been surprising for Mario to be in the drop zone. I think, at the start of the show, Tom remarked that this was the week the Sabrina was knocked out last year - could there be another shock exit.

As the weeks go by, the number of points separating the top couples from the bottom is getting smaller. So, although a couple might be marked "at the top", by the judges, they are actually, not that far from the bottom.

Jason and Edyta - I thought this was good choreography on Edyta's part - someone Jason's size would look really gangly doing a full-on fast cha-cha, plus this gave him the chance to dance on his own. I thought he did well, although it did show up that he's not actually quite as good as he has appeared until now. I thought the marks were fair, although he may have suffered a bit from going first, possibly if he'd been later in the show he may have got one or more nines.

Shannon and Derek - I liked this - I don't think it was perfect, but the choreography seemed a lot harder than they made it look as a dance, and it can't be easy in this dance when the guy is shorter than you are! I do think the judges were a bit harsh, and I also think that Shannon is better suited to ballroom. At least she wasn't gasping for breath this week!

Marlee and Fabian - I didn't like this routine at all, I thought the music was not a good choice, and it was clear that they were struggling. Marlee was very unlucky to get these two dances back to back, but it did show in the routine that she was not feeling the music in the way she has in previous dances.

Cristian and Cheryl - I thought this was fantastic, it was light and fast, and he did do a great job with his footwork, which is something the judges seem to care a lot less about, compared to Strictly, so I was glad to see they picked up on that. It certainly showed that he didn't deserve to go last week, and he did a fair bit on his own out of hold, and didn't get the scared look too often, which was an improvement!

Marissa and Tony - This was, I think, her best ballroom effort so far, and it was definitely a change from her usual bouncy style, however I don't ever really feel much from them as a couple. Technically it was ok, not sure it was quite as good as the judges marked it. Did nothing for me overall.

Kristi and Mark - I think the jive suited them as a couple - it doesn't require much emotion but lots of technique. For me it was very good, but I think given what we've seen they can do, it could have been sharper. Mark's glasses were just scary.

Mario and Karina - Mario did a great job in what's usually a bad dance for the men. Karina's dress was just distracting - I kept expecting it to fall off. I kind of see where Len was coming from, and given that they did have a lift, I don't think it deserved any tens, but it was still a good performance.

Group dance - This was insane! It came over very well, seeing as it could have gone badly wrong, and everyone looked like they were having fun. I think this is a good way of easing them into two dances.

Results show - Ashlee Simpson. Ugh. Turned the sound off, so I missed who the dancers were, they looked good but didn't seem to be anything really different. Riverdance was fabulous as always, I like to listen to them dance and hear all the steps so perfectly in time, almost as much as I enjoy watching it. Junior dancers, I thought the right couple won, and they were slightly less scary than the younger ones from the last couple of weeks, but still a bit machine-like when being interviewed. Bottom two, Mario and Marlee - wasn't that shocked that Mario was in the bottom, I think they took a risk with how hot that dance was and it didn't pay off. Not surprised Marlee was there either, as she's had two bad weeks. I also wasn't surprised she went. I think it was nice that they showed the others coming to them at the end, I'm pretty sure Cheryl was crying.

Was very happy to hear about the 100th episode special, and that Mel and Maks would be back, that should be fantastic!

    Jason & Edyta
Nice enough chacha - enjoyed it, but I don't like his too-casual outfits. I think ballroom will be his strength, because of his height and size. As a man has won the last 4 series, I'd put money on him as he's the only man who has not been in the bottom 2 - yet.

    Shannon & Derek
Good performance, but I was disappointed with their post score rant. She was one of my favourites to begin with but I've gone off a bit, her especially as she seems to be getting worse. Tbh I didn't enjoy their rumba as much as I thought I would, given their supposed showmance. She would have been better off with a taller pro.

    Marlee & Fabian
Didn't enjoy her dance at all, and I was disappointed with Fabian, who's meant to be a mambo champ. I wish she got a ballroom dance instead as this was too close to last week's samba.

    Christian & Cheryl

Really liked their foxtrot! Cheryl's outfit and posture reminded me of Joanne Bolton (?) - the female half of the pro foxtrot we saw in series 5. I agreed with the comments and scores (and has Len ever heard the word "originality" before?)

    Marissa & Tony

I immediately thought of Kelly and Brendan when I heard the first bars of this song. I loved their VW although I'm not a huge fan of the smooth versions of dances. I thought her marks and comments were well deserved and her reaction made her my new favourite..

    Kristi & Mark

Didn't like their outfits but I really liked the dance, and thought it deserved the 10s. It wasn't perfect but compared but for the night, I think it deserved those marks. I preferred it to Jill Halfpenny's jive, which I don't find as amazing as others do.

    Mario & Karina

I loved their rumba and thought Len was talking absolute rubbish (as usual). The rumba has no textbook definition, people can interpret it the way they want, like every other dance. I think the 10 was well deserved as rumbas are hard for men to sell.

    Group Dance

Looked like fun! Country dance isn't my thing so didn't enjoy it as much as other group dances.

    Result show

Ashley Simpson  Used her segment to paint my toenails...

Really enjoyed Riverdance - always do! I hope we see it on Strictly this year. I reckon the BBC are really stingy when it comes to result show entertainment as there's so much more to dance than what we get to see.

Junior Ballroom - at least they're getting older! I think the right couple won. The little guy and the taller girl looked really odd together!

I was expecting Kristi to tumble to the bottom 2 as Tom kept hinting at something, so was surprised to se Mario there. I thought Marlee was the weakest on the night and deserved to go. It's sad to lose her but the competition's up a notch now. Hope Mario's bottom 2 stint was a minor blip, like Christian's last week..

Just a couple of questions about this week's show:

    1) Derek seemed very angry about someone's heel leads (or lack of) not being reflected in marking. I admit to not noticing their presence or absence, does anyone know who he meant?

    2) I did not mind them mentioning Kristi's club foot as a child, but I can imagine it might have been viewed cynically by some. Is there a chance her votes were hit by it this week?

    Sallyforth,
I think Derek was talking generally, more than a specific dance this week, mainly because I can't imagine that he would have that much chance to watch the performances live whilst the show is being recorded. I may be wrong, but that was my impression - some dancers make the same footwork errors regularly, and it doesn't get reflected in the marking. He does have a point because the judges pick the celebs up on their footwork a lot less often than in Strictly.
Kristi - not so sure, I get the feeling US audiences are less cynical than UK ones. Also, a lot of the online polls, such as those at tvguide.com have her way out in front too, although I still don't get why.

Not gonna' do a blow-by-blow as everyone else has already. I don't usually get time to see the shows until Sundays, as I'm always too busy the rest of the w/e :(.
    Costumes
Not a very good week imo, the only ones I liked were Marissa's; hurrah at last one that suited her & looked elegant & Kristi's; lovely flounce that really suited the jive.
Edyta, Karina, Shannon & Marlee all looked like hookers  & Cheryl like she'd stolen an old 1970's "Come Dancing" ballgown ;). The only man I thought looked hot & the part was Mario.
    Choreography
Fave's were Christian/Cheryl; lovely footwork & Kristi/Mark; really suited them as a couple but not as precise as I expected. A good one to do again later with improvements.
Worst for me were Marlee/Fabian; it was just laboured unfortunately & Shannon/Derek; they had no chemistry which was surprising & a tad awkward, it made me feel embarrassed to watch. I loathed her costume even more than some of Edyta's repulsions (& that's saying something).
I think although Mario/Karina's was very well danced she made a mistake in pitching it too high on the sensual/soft porn level, not a good move for a family show especially in the States where they seem to be a bit more prudish than us regarding sexual inuendo etc.
    Group Dance
Not too keen on the actual "dancing" as it was very ametuerish but it was fun I suppose, did n't bother to watch it twice though so maybe it was better 2nd time around. Shannon looked very gangly & awkward & Marissa lumpy & awkward. Of the men celeb's none looked too terrible to me.
    Results Show
Got to the point where I can't bear the "kids" so just zoom through that bit. God we've got a dance-off to contend with ughhhhh - will fast forward that too, (thank goodness I have Sky+).
I also watched Ashlee Simpson with the sound off - only so I could watch the dancers tbh. I quite liked 'em.
Riverdance, I went to see this over 10 years ago in London & it brought back memories. I'm afraid that principle male dancer did not do it for me, not only was he unattractive (imo) he had no sexual charisma (which is what made Michael so watchable). Irish dance experts out there may say his technique was better but I'm more into dance for the whole package & he did not have it for me - but each to their own. The group as a whole was good though.
Not surprised Marlee went, was n't her week & she's not improving.
I think it could be Marissa next week, she's getting irritating with all that OTT screeching etc & Mario cos he does not seem to have the fan base & comes across as too smug. Plus both seem to be in that middle board danger-zone a lot.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered already but is this series over already in the US? I want to be careful not to click on the ABC site only to discover the winner like I did when Apolo was in it.

Not that I really mind knowing, but I'm on pins when I write a post in case I accidentally give it away to people who don't want to know, so it's best I'm in the dark too!

Very happy to hear them say Apolo will be making a guest appearance in a couple of weeks. :):)

Im enjoying this show more than the UK's SCD and have gotten into it only after a couple of weeks, I missed the first 4 weeks.

I think the marking in the US is a lot higher than here for some reason  However, I do like the results show as there's alot more to it although I don't like the way they eliminate people in dribs and drabs. Maybe its the US showbiz way of doing things though.

I can't stand the female presenter! I find her really irritating when she does the interviews prior to the scores.

Any ideas why Derek Hough, Julianne Hough and Mark Ballas aren't on SCD as I thought they were London based?
