    Anchorman - Absolutely hilarious.

Great cast of cameos from a few funny men.

    I can't believe I haven't watched this before now.

    8/10.

I am so looking forward to: The Legend Continues, I can't wait.

Yes The Day The Earth Caught Fire is one of my favourites aswell I love the 50s 60s sci fi stuff the poor special effects make them much more interesting than the crap cgi stuff now !

I enjoyed that as well. It was the first time I had seen Leo McKern in anything else other than Rumpole.

Stakeland (2010) Battling zombie vampires and religious nutcases in an Apocalyptic U.S.A. Really enjoyed it.
Young Sherlock Holmes (1985) Enjoyable way to while away a Sunday afternoon.

I actually enjoyed that and it gave an interesting pseudo-backstory to a few of Sherlock's little foibles and ways. It had a nice little twist at the end as well.

I was expecting to see something of a sequel, at the time, but it never materialised.

    The Wolverine (LINK)

I'm not a big X-Men fan and I don't remember much of the first Wolverine film (I probably should have watched it again). This sequel was ok. I do like the fact that they take the film seriously but it's still a "hit & miss" with me. Some good moments, some "meh" moments. I definitely liked the scene that occurs a couple of minutes into the ending credits. That was very intriguing and I guess it's a setup for the film X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.

Good Brit thriller, All Things To All Men/aka The Deadly Game - with Gabriel Byrne, Toby Stephens, Rufus Sewell.

Very good cat and mouse tale with Gabriel Byrne & Rufus Sewell completely stealing the show. James Frain puts in a brief cameo and is classy as always.

    8/10.

    Prisoners

A difficult film. Way too long, unremittingly depressing and an unsatisfying conclusion. The acting was superlative, particularly from Jackman, but trimming 45 off would have helped massively.

    6/10

    Byzantium

Hmm, not bad for a British made vampire flick, the chopping between the 19th century & present day was interesting, but the story fell a little flat and there were a lot of holes in it. Still, watching Gemma Arterton run around for the majority of the film in stockings & suspenders helped :D

    Currently watching Lincoln.

Good but I don't have the in depth knowledge of American history to understand totally what is going on.

Ambitious low budget indie film with an unsatisfying ending.

Juan de los Muertos (Juan of the Dead) 6.5/10 - This low budget Cuban zombie movie is a bit silly in places.

I found the cultural side of things interesting at times too.

(In Spanish with English subtitles on Lovefilms).

    Zero Dark Thirty

Thought it was excellent, with a surprisingly good score too. The actual mission itself at the end is quiet and restrained, but the tension is absolutely palpable. You know how it ends, but that doesn't stop you wanting to go along for the ride.

I thought this was excellent too. I was expecting the usual dollop of gung-ho American propaganda, but it's a lot more balanced than that, and you find your sympathies switching around quite a bit (or at least I did) It doesn't pull it's punches, and shows the American interrogation methods in ther torture camps are as barbaric as anything the terrorists could dream up.
As you say, although we all know the conclusion, it's still very tense in the movie. Again, they don't try to make out the finale was anything more than a cold bloodied execution really. Bin Laden could probably have been captured alive, but it's made clear that was never their intention.

Just seen Exploding Sun and actuality enjoyed a bit more than most other Syfy stuff.
It seemed a bit like The Core so gave this a 5 out of 10.
Also the effects were a little better than some other stuff lately.

I think it was called 'In Their Skin' or summot like that.

It was the worst film ever. So rubbish that I spent the whole movie thinking how wussy the bloke was. I mean, I couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding, but I think I could have him.

I even fast forwarded a particular slow section.

The film had promise and the story was OK, but dear lord, sack the person who did the hiring.

Killing Them Softly - 6.5/10 Brad Pitt in a mob hit man affair. Just too slow and hard work to be particularly good. A meeting between Gandolfini and Pitt's characters was painful as they seemed to be trying too hard to sound like wiseguys. I didn't understand the thrust of what Gandalf's character was trying to say at all. As it turned out it didn't seem to matter. Wouldn't want to watch it again.

Casino. It's very long isn't it? Hadn't seen this in ages and had to watch it in 3 or 4 goes. Agonised over what rating to give it as I don't like handing films a perfect 10 lightly. De Niro and Pesci are great as you'd expect but I still think Goodfellas p!sses all over this. That said Sharon Stone is absolutely superb so in the end I decided (almost begrudgingly) to hand it 10/10.:D

The Velvet Touch [1948]. Director: Jack Gage

    6/10

One of those 40's films that starts with a murder then has a flashback to see what led up to it before the murderer gets outed (or outs herself in this one).

    Iron Man 3

Saw this last night. It was ok. Better than the 2nd film but it doesn't come close to being equal to the first one. The villain was a disappointment.

    The Way, Way Back (LINK)

I finished watching this one earlier today and I thought it was GREAT! It's a comedy-drama about a shy 14-year old boy who spends his summer growing up. Sam Rockwell is terrific in this and steals every scene he's in. The film has a great soundtrack too. I highly recommend this one.
