Got a problem here and don't know how to fix it. it seems when i log into windows 8 i am running explorer.exe without administrative privalages and all my documents files (not the folders) are showing a white icon and i get the long green bar going across at a snails pace.
Examples
White Icons
Not in Administrative mode
Admin on explorer checked
As it should be after running explorer as admin
How can i fix this without me starting task manager everytime to make sure i am running windows explorer so i can acess all my files and docs displayed properly? really annoying i have to do this all the time :mad:

No it started before i ran explorer task as admin, that's why i get all white icons when i boot up windows 8 with my files until i do run the task then it's completely normal, it feels like it's telling me that i cannot access my own files.
Yes and it's also possible normal users have no rights, because local SIDs and SIDs on the disk do not match. Thus changing rights on a single file as I proposed before does not prove anything, it has to be a directory. I'd create a new one and copy there a few documents from the local disk and check the result.
File Explorer
My libraries in Windows 8 have gone like that a couple of times.
I had to delete them all one at a time (right click menu), then 'Restore Default Libraries'.
You then have to redo any customization you've done to them.
But try restarting the computer first.
Not sure if it's a bug in 8, but it never happened for me in 7.
My theory is that it's got something to do with having folders on other physical hard drives included in the libraries?
Having said that I've got two Windows 8 computers, and it only happens on one.
Mind you, it looks from your photo that it's the whole of Explorer that's got corrupted, rather than just the Libraries. Is that right?
I have windows 8 on my laptop and it runs perfect, don't know why it won't run properly on here, looks like another install attempt and see if it fixes it. running 64bit on pc and dual booting with XP, wonder if XP is causing the issue?
I think the OS is buggy and needs a lot of fixes.
I think there is definitely an instability in the way Windows 8 deals with Libraries that wasn't there in Windows 7.
I have my music on a folder on another drive, and when I open Windows Media Player I can hear the computer starting up the drive from cold, so it's obviously had it shut down.
One time I was playing music and it suddenly stopped, and I found all the music in the WMP library had disappeared. Looking in Explorer the Libraries had become corrupted as in your photo.
Perhaps it had shut down the secondary drive unexpectedly?
Course it could be some instability just in my own system? I upgraded the motherboard to install Windows 8, but I'm still using old IDE hard drives.
Also, the reason I have the music on another drive is that I'm sharing that with three Linux distributions on the same computer (quadruple booting).
I haven't had any problems with permissions and ownership, although I did on another computer dual booting 7 and 8.
But perhaps Windows 8 doesn't like sharing?
Sorry, none of that is specifically addressing your problem.
looks like a restore of the xp image from acronis I made back in may last year and a new install of windows 8 after.
Sorry, but you don't seem to understand how NTFS permissions work.
If you boot into Windows installation A and modify the permissions of a user profile in Windows installation B, you won't be able to access the files in installation B.
Add in the user account (and computer name) for the other computer and give it at least modify (or full control) permissions for all the files.
Enter the user account as computername\username
There will be a tick box that allows you to reset the permissions for all the sub folders too, so that everything below gets the permissions currently set for the folder you clicked on.
The issue relating my libraries seems to have fixed as they should be and not going off in my first post screen shots and everything normal for now but it's the gfx drivers that are the issue.
