I was going to make a smart a$$ comment, but then thought better of it. There is no way to try and make light of the situation.

You should have said your comment....sometimes humour is the best way to handle rubbish news like that.....:)

Unfortunately, my marriage dissolved because of a mental health issue. If she could have received the help she needed it may have ended up different. I did what I could, but was unable to help her on my own.

actually i am what you would term a trekker, this bit from Wikipedia sums up why im not a trekkie
One Trekkie came by and felt compelled to explain, while paying for his Mr. Spock computer image, that he was actually a Trekker (a rational fan). Whereas, he said, a Trekkie worships anything connected with Star Trek and would sell his or her mother for a pair of Spock ears

my mums worth far more than a pair of spock ears

I'm really sorry to hear that:(....and that is what gets me angry so much...that due to all these services closing down, not only will those who have any sort of mental health issue suffer...but so will there family and carers, because the pressure on them will increase. I don't doubt you didn't do all you could....but there is a severe need for more services. :(

I'm sure she is, but you will note that the Wiki narrator refers to the soi-disant Trekker as a Trekkie, thus declining to recognise the distinction. ;)

Edit: I reckon I must have been waiting at least 20 years to use the expression 'soi-disant'. :D

I must add at this point, I'm Canadian and we have very similar issues in our health care as you do in the UK. At least we have SOME care unlike the USA.

Bit of a non sequitur, I thought as well.

But I suppose the Inn thrives on non sequiturs.

ah...long story...but a short version is that I saw a "for Sale" signboard on my last place of work, when we were made to believe that it was closed for refurbishment....so that is another mental Health service closed for good... :(
Hope you find a new job soon :(
