Strange phone calls to landline

Hello,

I've had this happen twice today. The house phone goes crazy and rings as normal, so I answer, as one would, and then there is a long pause. After I've said hello several times it just bleeps and the voice says 'goodbye'.

What the hell is this all about? Can I have this annoyance rectified in any way because it's doing my head in. We're supposedly registered with the TPS as well...

    It'll probably be a call centre dialling you automatically, trying (but failing) to connect you with an operator when you answer, and then hanging up. Difficult to rectify until you find out who's doing it.

    Someone has been on auto dial and not been able to catch up with you.
