Random memories springing into your head?

Does this happen to anyone else?
Are you ever going about your usual day, doing something quite mundane, and then a random unconnected memory from childhood pops into your head?
It happens to me all the time, I can never make sense of why random memories spring into my head at random times.
Not even interesting memories, usually something simple like falling over untied shoe laces or spilling a drink.
Am I making any sense to anybody, can anyone else identify?

It's weird isn't it, do you sometimes wonder why your brain would suddenly trigger these little memories?
My brother's the best for it, there'll be a song on the radio and he'll say something like; "Oh this reminds me when we went to Blackpool in May, and we went to that chippy on sucha street and I had them shoes on and you did this..."
The level of detail he can remember is astounding from one song!
Or can everyone remember like that and it's just me with a crap memory?
Lol, you fanny. I've been out today

I have all sorts of odd memory things - I think it is stress / angst - that is what the doctor said, anyway.
No I agree.
With me, it will almost always be completely random and completely out of the blue with no trigger or reason at all.
If there were a trigger then it would not be weird at all and would not even be worthy of comment. It is the fact that it is so inexplicable that makes it strange.
There's a few threadson DOYOUREMEMBER for this, I suggest you get yourself over there and join the forum/
I also have weird moments when something will pop into my head - like a tiny bit from last night's dream - but it will fade out before I can grab hold of it. It actually makes my heart pound and my knees go weak with alarm. It will always happen about a dozen times over a period of a couple of days and then not again for months and months. My friend actually made me go to the hospital once when it was happening cos she thought I was having an epilepsy or something. But the doctor said it was just anxiety.
Well the thing is - it might actually BE a nice memory - but I can never remember it. I have even tried to write it down as it is happening. But when I look at the paper afterwards, the words don't help me to remember at all. It is not the actual thoughts that are alarming but the fact that I can feel them slipping away and not being able to grasp onto them and stop them disappearing. Does that make sense ?
Coincidentally, I just had a random memory about Julie Smith on a swing from 1968ish. This thread may have triggered it somehow
That's exactly right,
I understand the whole song, taste smell memory triggering stuff, but it's the completely unconnected moments that confused me.
I would hate not remembering anything
I will also often think of someone who I haven't heard from or seen for years then before I know it, I will see them while out shopping or they will ring.
You are all SO f*cked now. Unless you get the superpowers back before the men in black turn up.
