In one of the interview programmes, she said she decided to put on a high itched voice rather than use her own at her audition for the part. So the producers must have liked it.

Kaley Cuoco was turned down at her first audition for the part of Penny (the character was originally called Katie), but when the plot was rejected and they were told to try again, she was called back and got the part of the female lead now called Penny.

They need to either make her more relevant or make her a total background character who is talked about but not seen, Similar to Howards mother....However they probably can't/won't unless the actress chooses to leave, And why would she do that?

I think they probably now regret putting Howard with someone who appears, She as said has no purpose other than the girly group scenes but even they could do without her. If they had not married Howard off then after the death of his mother they could have had him meet someone off screen and have her just referred too

Both Amy and Bernadette were much better when they were just recurring characters. Them both becoming regulars was the time when TBBT started losing itself.

For me that was the best part. And they weren't moaning about men; it was mostly about their relationships with their parents. Penny hadn't told her father about being married, and Amy hadn't told her parents about the break-up.

The guys in the van I found almost painful to watch. I'm not sure why. In a way it was an old-school segment, down to them making thermite using rust. (Good luck igniting it with a match, though.) Mostly it didn't work for me. Maybe just the old-school problem of being less how geeks behave and more how arts-grads think they behave. The women are just more watchable characters now.

But the show was never meant to be about three women. I find their scenes boring, sort of Sex and the City without the nudity.

What made the show work was how hopeless the 4 men were around women, Howard was originally funny because he was so cringeworthy, now he is a pointless character.

Go back and watch the early shows, especially say season 2 and 3 still very funny, but now the funny guy stuff has gone.

Would the Inbetweeners been as funny if a load of female characters had been brought in to take over the show? What works is the humour between the lads.

She certainly puts on her high-pitched voice for the show. Here she is speaking normally.

No different to Megan Mullally's voice as Karen in Will and Grace I suppose. Actually, for me at least, I think Melissa Rauch's real voice and her character's voice aren't that far apart but Mullally's Karen voice was quite a way away from her real voice.

I don't know anything about fencing, but for me the funniest scene I have possibly ever seen on TBBT was when they started fighting behind Barry's back when he was on the phone. :):):)

It was funny, but it reminded me of the pandas in an advert for ... a chocolate bar?

I laughed out loud at the part just after Amy received a text from Kripke :

"Can't you use the trick of imagining him naked?"

Amy holds up phone - "I don't have to".

A decent episode last night, the fencing was funny.

They hardly ever seem to appear altogether anymore though. Including the girls. Like someone said it could be two different shows.

Good to see Kripke again! Hope he returns again, he's well-loved in our household.

Also, as a former fencer, I can say those scenes were highly accurate.

Hilarious. That bit was so true. All new fencers go through this phase of itching to "sword fight" and being frustrated with footwork lessons.

I was expecting utter hopelessness in the fencing scenes, knowing how useless they all are at any sport, but was very surprised and impressed how the characters got it straight away. Suspect the actors had several hours with a real fencing coach.

Thanks. I think advertisers have realised that if adverts are too funny, nobody remembers the products. Which probably explains this year's crop of awful Xmas ads.

OT slightly, but does anyone know/ can anyone explain how S, L, & R remain 'employed' at the university (I'm assuming Howard is full-time salaried at NASA)? Seeing Kripkie again reminded of the episode where they were all going for tenure (aka 'The One With Penny's Dress' :o:p) with the implication - which AFAIA hasn't come up again - that Kripkie got it. (Tenure, if you don't know, basically gives a professor contractual rights of employment. Kripkie possibly has it; the others don't.)

Not knowing academia that well, and the US university system even less well, why does it keep them on the payroll? As brilliant as they supposedly are, I can't recall an episode, or at least not that many over the nine seasons, where they consistently prove their worth. They've touched on it a few times, but usually their research turns out to be flawed for comedic effect. Am I forgetting the episodes where they came up with truly ground-breaking stuff? Also, where does their income come from? Are they salaried, or do they draw from their research grants for living expenses? It's been mentioned before that Penny earns more than Leonard ! How did that happen? Are we to believe that she's some sort of selling savant who can sell drugs to drug companies or something, or are the boys on a fairly modest income?

I was actually surprised this week as it was a genuinely funny episode.

I've made that point before. It's almost like the episodes are made up of separate 5 minute webisodes and just edited together.

Hang on to that memory as last night episode was atrocious.

So far this season has been very poor with the occasional laugh. Think it is suffering from US sitcom overload and is going the same way as Friends. Friends was generally very funny but as they limped over the line from season 8 onwards it got progessively worse. IMHO of course

Unlike the boys it doesn't seem like a genuine group of friends, can't see Penny hanging out with scientists in real life.

For me, personally, I enjoyed Friends all the way to the end. The decision to make Season 10 effectively one long plot worked quite well as well and i was genuinely sad when it finished.

With TBBT, whatever "it" is that makes something funny has completely deserted me. It's a show that really doesn't work for me any more apart from the (very) occasional 'sniff' of a reaction that something was mildly amusing.

I might have to track down some of the earlier episodes to see if I still enjoy those as much as I used to.

The first couple of series when the lads were so naive was very funny. The early episodes when Amy was introduced were also very funny, about the end of season 3 I think

Dont get me wrong I enjoyed Friends, the problem they had was the standard was so high fro the first 7 series, season 8--10 were OK, just not as high as what had gone before. The characters had changed so much Joey in particular was turned into a complete idiot

I'd always felt Penny had fallen on hard times, socially. In the first season I remember her having a group of hot female friends, but for a long time she's been stuck with the guys across the hall and their group, with no friends of her own. I felt it was due to her failure as an actress, and economic woes. Since then she's got a new job and is apparently successful selling medication, so I imagine she'd be socialising a lot as part of that, but perhaps she still hangs out with the other two partly because it was Bernadette who got her the job, and partly because she likes being with people she doesn't have to sell to.

It also makes sense that Amy wouldn't have anyone else to hang out with. The only person who doesn't seem to belong is Bernadette, because she seems both normal, and successful in her field.

I quite like the three women together. OK, it's no longer a show about geeks, but they are about as likeable and funny as the men.

In real life she would never have been able to afford to live in the same apartment block.

I have friends going back to my boyhood, and as we've all found wives along the way those wives have become friends too, though they'd never met one another previously. So I suppose it's possible that Penny, Amy and Bernadette would become friends.

However, I agree with most on here, this Season has been terribly unfunny.

The boys are taking home around 100k+ a year. I think Penny says that she is making x2 as much as Leonard, but I'm not sure how.
