I just know he smells good but in a low key , masculine way . DM is so meticulously groomed...and so clean. He never has 5 o clock shadow . I wonder if he uses an electric razor so he never cuts himself? They don't work so well for my dh and in W&M he used a blade. Sorry..we ARE a bunch.

Come to think of it, of all the hundreds of pictures I've looked at, I don't think I've ever seen Martin Clunes with a 5 o'clock shadow, nor even an 8am one, either. Interesting.

The things we get to think about!

That sounds a little like wishful thinking, Shop Girl!!

If it was me it'd have to be English Leather. Drove me crazy in high school. Would literally make me turn in my tracks if a guy walked past me with it on.

I can't help but think that maybe both DM and MC might just smell freshly showered and a hint manly, whatever the heck fragrance that might be!!!!! Swoon......

It's a very distinctive fragrance - reminds me of a pine forest (if my recollection is correct). An instructor in college wore it and I got the courage on the last day of class to ask him. A few years later I was in an elevator with a businessman and said, "Excuse me, but are you wearing 'The Baron?'" He was pretty shocked and said he was. I told him I would recognize it anywhere. Made by Evyan - same maker as "White Shoulders" - another favorite of mine back then.

I just think that DM would have found a scent that he liked early in adulthood and stay with it. Not one to go with the latest and greatest.

I have but mostly he's clean shaven. There are a few pictures of him with a mustache. Some of the closeups in documentaries when he's in the wild I've noticed on the HD big screen. I even did a freeze frame just to verify because it's so rare. :):o And there is at least one DM probably end of day filming pic where in the closeup you can see some chin stubble. No stubble rash for Louisa!!

I don't think she lied. She doesn't seem driven by money, she has her own money so why concern herself with Martin's. It's considered rude in the UK typically to ask how much you earn. I only asked my own husband the other month how much he gets, as I had to fill it in on a form on his behalf. I had no idea, never thought to ask either. It pays the bills so why bother knowing about each penny. When her other friend Holly said "you're boyfriend's got a bob or two" Louisa said "I wouldn't know". Why would she. I doubt she is googling "GP salary".

Unlike her parents Louisa doesn't seem to think money is the most important thing. Which is good.

Leannethemouse--my "why lie to your friend" was meant to infer she had NOT lied to her friend and told the truth.

I just signed up today for acorn. I've done a lot of research and it looks like our best bet.

I still have hopes I'll be able to tap in ITV's website and watch it sooner using TunnelBear. But, Acorn is at least getting it much sooner than in previous seasons, which is great.

As I lay myself to sleep
I pray the Lord one thing to keep
That MC and DM You'll care
To never have a face of hair.

    (PS: stubble is fine!) :D

The mustache was for a role. He said he couldn't wait to shave it off - PB hated it. :p

Agreed—so meticulously groomed! (Though since I first saw S5E8 I have been thinking what a nice indirect indication of an off-screen increase in physical affection it would be if LG did develop some of that famous "stubble rash”).

I'm insane. I'm signing up for every possible means of accessing it as quickly as possible. Acorn, Tunnelbear, anything else, I'm game for it.

I have a uk VPN on my phone which enabled me to watch DM in Panama. I worked all afternoon with the help of their tech guy. I had access to ITV player but I couldn't get the app because neither my Visa or MasterCard
Was not acceptable to get a new password. It also didn't like my real address and I tried an address I know in London . It knew that was fake too. After an altogether frustrating 3 hours of typing on this I- phone I had such a headache! At least acorn will work. Whew

I guess on a scale between MC and Robin Williams I'd definitely pick something closer to MC. :D Is this conversation going downhill or is it just my imagination?:o

I have yet to make it to Portwenn to get close enough to smell.

But if I were to hazard a guess, I think it might be an old favorite of mine from the 70s - 80s called "The Baron".
My husband used Polo and since Martin Clunes is so fond of horses, I'm thinking that might be a good choice. But then I doubt that Martin Ellingham would be a lover of horses, so maybe not.

My husband wears Polo. It has quite an...unusual effect on me. We refer to it as 'sex juice'. I'll just leave it at that. :o;)

    So far we have:
    1. The Baron
    2. Polo
    3. English Leather

It would probably have to be something that didn't clash with Louisa's Flower by Kenzo. Any more suggestions?

Okay, now, is it only me that thinks DM cologne is the real money maker product BP could sell? :p
And I'd bet the women would be buying it regardless of whether there was a man in their house to put it on. :D:D

Ahhhh, Sometimes a Great Notion.....from Oregon.

SusieSagitarius!!!! If I were you I'd be sending an URGENT e-mail, text message, tweet or whatever they send these days to Buffalo Pictures with this idea!

Can't you just imagine the ad: Martin on the beach, the harbour in the background, perhaps a sweater (instead of the suit jacket) thrown casually over one shoulder and no tie this time. The shirt has a few buttons undone...

The line: "The surgery may be closed...but Doc Martin is always available..."

Doc Martin, the useful cologne for restrained gentlemen ;)

Of course! There had to be a reason for hair that was that red!! Well spotted, Rob!

Thanks, Connie. The ones where he seems to be growing a mustache I suspect are when he was getting ready to do A is for Acid, as he looks very similar. I like beards and mustaches but not that look on him--maybe because the story was so creepy. I don't mind the Shakespeare in Love look with the stache and goatee at all, at least for the role. But on him, I wouldn't cover a thing up......Sigh.......

The conversation about what the Doc smells like is hilarious! Perhaps we might see some hints in that bathroom scene in series 5. There might be something on the shelf lol.

In regard to stubble, I am all for it! I bet Louisa would be too. My husband's job means he has to shave everyday, but on the weekend it's wife's orders that he doesn't shave ;)

I'd love to see him with a bit of stubble, waking up all sleepy (and possibly still nude from the night before :cool::p).

This series I just HOPE we see them more comfortable around eachother, I would love to see them wake up with an arm around the other or something. It would be nice to see them touching eachother, in a hug or a hand hold or something. My husband is very much like DM (made me attracted to him in the first place :D ) and he doesn't hug or cwtch much. I feel Louisa's frustrations when it's always her doing the work. But like DM, he's learning. I LOVED the scene when she kisses him on the cheek - it was tender and he loved it. I would like more "Goodby, see you later" kisses.
