Hidden gems?

Does anyone have any songs that have been released recently that are either completely unknown or didn't do as well as they should? Not just album tracks - I mean singles by credible artists that flopped commercially or singles by unknown artists that never took off.

Unusual You by Britney Spears is a hidden gem, never released as a single, but one of her best songs ever imo.

But he included Maroon 5 & The Black Eyed Pea's as examples, so it's pretty open I gues...

Oh whatever. Spend some time in the 'credible' indie scene and you'll see how pretentious and lacking in musical ability so many of these artists are.

    I meant credible as well-known.

I'm in to all sorts of music. I actually like 'crap music'. I'm not one of those insufferable hipsters

''Credible as well known'' I'd say after 14 years and countless hits Britney is known

Anyway for me it has to be Ellie Goulding- Figure 8 fantastic song but it flopped in at #33 :(

Great blog post OP, I agree with what you wrote about Marina & The Diamonds, fun., Maroon 5 and Owl City. And kind of Alex Winston, I listened to that song after it was on the Google advert, even though I can't decide whether I like it or not...:o

I fear this song is going to fall under the radar, it's one of the best songs of the year!

This unreleased Girls Aloud tune is pretty good aswell!

This CHVRCHES song should be a massive hit but it might be overlooked:

I really liked Crying Blood by VV Brown. That never did anything.

The OP never wrote that Britney Spears isn't well known. The OP has asked for examples of singles by well known artists that flopped commercially or singles by unknown artists that never took off. Britney obviously falls into the former.

    Lifehouse - Between the Raindrops
    A*M*E- Play the Game Boy

OK, it's not exactly hidden or didn't do well because it just premiered today, but....Tamar's new single All The Way Home is a gem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDq7rH3a0rY

It sounds like a proper 90s R&B track but modern and with real vocals. Tamar herself is a bit of a hidden gem though, she had a failed album in 2000, and she sang the backing vocals on Lady GaGa's Born This Way. It's only recently that she's broken out and notched up two R&B chart-topping singles in the US.

I like Tamar Braxton's song The One. They play it on Choice FM. The song it samples is great too.

You Look so Fine by Garbage! It's IMO one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs yet despite being a top 20 single in the late 90s you never hear it on the radio.

Although, relatively well-known 'Landslide' by Fleetwood Mac never did well commercially

rocket by goldfrapp didn't make the top 40 singles which surprised me, very catchy song and they have had quite a few hits in the past.
the charts are full of rubbish though, i don't expect good stuff to chart anymore which is a shame :(
