I worry that people who have a bloody good reason to be depressed are giving pills as a first port of call.
If your life is good and you are depressed for no real reason, then I expect it is something you are lacking in your brain.
But if your life is crap with crap things going on, or just coming out of a situation like that, then giving pills isnt a good idea. Support and advice would work much better.
