Oh my word, what a lot of nasty people there are on this thread. This is a lady who is probably a mother, an aunt, a grandmother, a wife, you get my drift.....she has lived and has loved and is loved I am sure by her family.

She is very knowledgeable and I can only aspire to acquire such wealth of general knowledge. She is certainly getting older and is no spring chicken anymore and is entitled to a wobble or two. If I have all my marbles at her age I will be extatic........give it a rest, u miserable lot and just embrace people for being individuals who bring an extra flavour to our lives.

You've quoted one person. Hardly "a lot".

    She is so annoying!!

She certainly is, and very unpleasant with it. As others have said, I can't stand her disparaging shake of the head when one of the challengers gets a question wrong.

Her funniest moment was a few years ago, when it was another Egghead's question and they got it wrong, and Daphne butted in to say the answer was the Goddess Diana when the correct answer was Minerva, or vice versa, and when she was told she was wrong she was mortified, and then tried to make out she was joking. A highly unpleasant neurotic mess of a person

She certainly has seemed to age and have more wobbles and slurs than previously, I do hope she is well. No one needs this crass and inhumane rudeness that is prevalent in this thread.

As I said before, I hold my hat up for Daphne, she is the age of my mother and I certainly would love my mum to have her get up and go.

Well said. Someone seems to have messed about with my post and then their original post, which I missed, has disappeared. Nothing to do with me. Doesn't make much sense though.

They all have their arrogance and affected ways,. When the railway bore gets a question wrong he declares it wasn't worth knowing the answer. Kevin nods and mumbles approvingly when told he's chosen the wrong option of two, as if he knew all along and was simply trying to give his opponent a chance. But, yes, Daphne's absurd claims that she is always simply having wild guesses really do take the biscuit.

I personally cannot abide the biddy. she's smug, arrogant and down right annoying. Kevin is the know it all and I find him a pleasure to watch, the guy is a true genius. You don't see him gesticulating and shaking his head and saying sorry in the most unashamedly "it was inevitable" way. I have to say I find myself shouting at the TV and if I hear her teeth click again I'll throw a wobbly:D

CJ was annoying at first but the guy actually knew a lot of stuff, Pat is ok, Chris is the lovable uncle, Judith the posh bit of Totty, Barry, well he's just Barry, I don't mind him

found a pic of Daphne from her wonga days, LMAO

Daphne should do herself and me a favour and leave.

I find her smug and arrogant too. The head shaking or nodding vigourously when another egghead gets an answer wrong or right is so uncalled for. It's as if she is saying to the audience, "I knew that! I knew that!"

I also find her flinty eyed and she clearly knows the answer when she pretends she doesn't and does one of her 'lucky guesses'

Chris I find irritating and pompous.
    Kevin is just gobsmackingly clever.
    Barry is sweet and unassuming.

Her performance on 15 to 1 was absolutely incredible.

Kevin is just awesome and very modest

One time I got a couple of questions right which Daphne got wrong so she's a long way short of know-it-all. How can she possibly think the radius of the Earth is 60,000km? That was foolish.
Sometimes the things they don't know say more than what they do.

Yeah, Kevin is great. He comes across quite embarrassed with his knowledge sometimes. Which is endearing.

He doesn't just know stuff because it's a fact he remembers from lists; he knows stuff because he's either been there or learnt about subjects in depth. Which is why he falters in food and drink; it's not something he's passionate about.

Christmases would be very miserable with an uncle like Chris around - bitter, grumpy old man!

I wish Dave would stop saying "fair enough" every time he's wrong. He makes it sound like the correct answer is a matter of opinion, not fact.
Also, to all contestants - just say what the answer is, not what it isn't.
And, for example, if your specialist subject is sport, please don't make excuses like "boxing's not something I know much about" etc.

    Agreed about Dave.

I think you'll find that the producers encourage the contestants, including the Eggheads, to elaborate on their answers, and to say why two of the options can't be correct.

When people say their speciality is Sport, what they usually mean is that they know a bit about football, and very little about any other sport.

Been a while since I have watched the show, having only met Kevin out of all the eggheads I found him to be charming & very friendly & made time to speak to anyone who wanted a chat.
What puts me off watching is the show is so biased in favour of the Eggheads.
I suspect most of you know as regular viewers that the opposition is actually a team of six which the producers whittle down to five on the day of recording, who goes on the " subs " bench ?
You guessed it the teams best player

Ooh no I didn't know that. I love Eggheads but some of the questions are pitiful. Jeremy once said something about someone writing in asking why some of the questions for the Eggheads were so easy, he implied they were easy for them as they know so much  he obviously didn't get it. Maybe he hasn't realised that some of the questions are so easy they shouldn't be on a show like this.
I don't dislike any of the Eggheads but I do find it annoying when Daphne 'guesses' correctly so often. Why does she pretend! I don't mind Dave but I wish they'd stop calling him 'Tremendous Knowledge' he may be that to his friends but not compared to some of the other Eggheads. I'm impressed with Barry and Pat as well as Kevin of course ;)

What did people do before the internet allowed them to air their petty grievances and whinges?

Bore people down the pub I suppose.

Daphne is the most outwardly competitive of the eggheads and can be infuriating with the accuracy of her guesses but has the biggest range of knowledge with the exception of Kevin

Tremendous knowledge Dave is incredibly boring, quite like Judith, Pat and Chris, Barry is quietly amusing

Apparently she was a non-dart player contestant on Bullseye in the 80s. I've looked out for her whenever I see an old edition of the programme on Challenge TV but I've never spotted her.

    It's on youtube

I don't think her guesses are accurate I think often when she says it's a guess she does have an inkling but doesn't let on. I know she does sometimes say she has an inkle but I think it's more often than she says.

i swear the whole show is rigged you can just feel it, I wonder if any challenging team has blown up and said hang on a minute and exploded with rage:D NOW things like that would make a show:D

someone said they thought eggheads would do well on university challenge, I doubt anyone saying that has watched university challenge, where the questions are about 3 times harder if not more and you don't get 3 choices to choose from,

There is a website that qives you some University challenge type questions with choices

    http://www.supanet.com/quiz/the-university-challenge-quiz-q194p1.html

and then there's the eggheads one

    http://www.drumondpark.com/eggheads/play

i think you'll agree the eggheads questions are easier:D

The first part is true, the rest of it isn't.

It is true that a team of contestants consists of six, being five for the team and one reserve, but the contestants themselves choose who the reserve is. It isn't done on the day of the recording either, but well in advance. We knew at the audition which five would be our team and who we were having as the reserve.
