    It depends on what you define by "need".

    Some people can feel perfectly alert and rested after 5 hours sleep. This doesn't make it healthy - all scientific evidence suggests that less than 8 hours sleep in a 24 hour period has a negative effect on the body and the mind.

    But some people can't physically sleep for longer than 5 hours, in which case it is healthy for them.

    Depends on what nonsense you read. Some articles say 8 hours sleep is bad for you .... Like this one

    All scientific evidence doesn't say that at all. Here's a link to a huge study that found more or less the opposite:-
