I'd like a few more surprises rather than patches on security all the time... but then that's the point of Patch Tuesday, and with me saying that, these patches are helping my computer stay healthy and I'd rather not bite the hand that feeds it.
Same! I'm sure it did some the other day as well. I don't mind really on the desktop, just it's annoying on the laptop -i rarely use it, then when I do, it's doing updates and forcing me to restart.
I just done an update then rebooted, then before it got to the windows loading screen the laptop went dead, I tried again it got to the same point and same thing happened. I tried a few more times and no change.
I unplugged everything and removed the battery and plugged it all back in then retried and all worked fine. I hope it was just coincidence as the laptop's been working fine before that happened.
Using Vista Home Premium and it is currently installing 23 updates. It is taking ages to do it. I have been waiting half an hour so far and it has only got to No. 11!
Is it downloading them at the same time? Have quite a slow connection (about 2 Mbps) so if so that could explain it.
My Vista update finally completed after about 1h 20m!
On restarting, it went through a very slow and tortuous procedure, which included a restart and a long period on the "Welcome" screen, during which the screen went slightly strange with a dotted line down the middle and a faint repeat of the display offset to the right by about half the width of the screen - this continued when the icons finally appeared, but cleared when I turned the monitor off and then back on.
Just finished updating the old XP desktop. Took best part of an hour with 21 in total. The .Net ones always take ages as I suspect it replaces the complete .Net package.
Anyway I asked my dad if he had any Windows updates last night on his laptop and he said no, he usually gets the updates on Wednesdays. I thought that was a bit strange.

They are released at 6PM on tuesdays, but that doesn't mean the PC will check then, I think it checks every 24 hours so it is likely many people recieve them on Wednesdays.

I got mine today on this W7 x64 laptop - but manually checked this morning and there was nothing, they were downloaded between 11.30am and noon.

.NET update took a while so don't worry if it doesn't look like it's doing anything
