Its widely known Three is best for data speeds, I get between 23-33Mb usually ranging around 27Mb.
Your best bet is to unlock to be honest if you wish to get speeds greater than 4Mbps and then sign up to Three, but I guess as you said you're too cheap.
fasted best value - Three - unlimited data and speeds of around 20mb where i live plus no extra cost for 4g when they launch
Speeds obviously will vary depending where you are but in my experience, Three are the most consistent.
I've had faster speeds on T-Mobile than I saw on Three but it's much more hit-and-miss.
EE 4G at upto 80 is fastest but you seem to want the cheapest option seeing you mentioned Virgin.
What phone, please?
Nokia 920. Speed does obviously depend on the phone which (to be very positive) will only get better over time.
Are you on the full monty plan though? im sure that's the one they throttle speeds on
I'm on a 1GB plan with them.
i cant be sure, but as others are saying your best bet is to go with Three, you'll know you'll have great speeds and wont be throttled, just get your phone unlocked, it doesn't cost that much
I tend to travel around the country during the week and so I do have the luxury of trying my connection in various areas and from this personal experience, I tend to find that Three seem to offer the highest and most consistent speeds, especially in DC-HSDPA enabled mast areas. Followed by T-Mobile who seem to give usable streaming speeds most of the time.
The worst network i've ever used so far has to be Virgin Mobile, who really seem to struggle to give me more than 1 - 2 mb/s day or night in any of the areas i've visited and i've yet to see any upload speed from them exceed 0.4mb/s at any point in the last nine months.
