How about a person who has a mental disorder and takes anti psychotic medication? Without the medication they might be anti social, even dangerous, but with it they are not.
That's a good question, and it deserves a decent answer but I've never been in that situation so I can only speculate.
I certainly hope I wouldn't let my prejudices (inevitable, to a greater or lesser extent) get in the way but since it's not something I've encountered before I would probably overdo the 'act normal' bit and come across as really quite strange, probably a depressingly familiar sight for the person in question.

Surely as others have said, it would lead t them moving onto children eventually. Its like the claims that hardcore pornography leads to rape etc. - same kind of thing. Apart from that, its disturbing! Can't believe people have actually discussed this with any seriousness.

Is there any actual link between pornography and rape though? Or have the vested interest groups such as the right wing tabloids, parent groups, politicians and feminists decided to come to a conclusion first and then attempt to find facts? I suspect that with a robot, offenders will easily tell the difference and it'll have nil effect on suppression of their sexual desire rather than it being a stepping stone onto real children.

    Except that isn't true.

Hardcore pornography doesn't lead to rape.

    Complete and utter tabloid crap.

That's probably most likely the case.

It would have to be a bit prettier than the one in the link, surely?

I completely agree. It's just the tabloids wanting to create hysteria about something.

If the robot in the link below is what the BBC calls lifelike or even fairly lifelike, I don't know what term they'd use for a robot that looked very similar to humans.

I suppose it's lifelike if you are a paedophile with an Avatar fetish.

    Hahahahaha :D

I clicked on the link expecting to see something that resembled something human, but it really does look more like a genetic mutation from Avatar.

I've revised my opinion on this:

    It categorically wont work.

I don't think paedophilia can be treated just like homosexuality can't or say zoophilia. It's just like scientists tried to "treat" homosexuals back in the 50's and 60's by using lobotomy, electroshocks and who knows what else. The best way would be some sort of a cognitive therapy, where they would try to teach paedophiles to control their urges. Although, I don't think that would work with everyone either, as all people have different character and behaviour.

The thread isn't wrong but I think the idea of these dolls is wrong. Even the picture is creepy.

Isn't BCT exactly what *is* currently offered to convicted paedophiles?

I don't know if it is, but if so, It's obviously not working well.

Well, by any reasonable definition you could say it is.

The tabloids, politicians and the paranoid middle-class have paedophiles on the brain, but I'd say it's pretty evident that there isn't some sort of national pandemic of child abuse.

I'd imagine a Chris Hansen doll would keep would-be paedophiles at bay.
Featuring some of his witty catchphrases:
'I'm Chris Hansen with Dateline NBC'.
'Why don't you take a seat'.
'What were you planning on doing tonight?'
    'We have the chat logs'.

I used to love that show, some sick b*******s on it >:(

Shame they cancelled it,i wonder if any other countries did a version
