Ever been in a Sex Shop?

By Sex Shop, I'm referring to a "Private Shop", as opposed to a brothel.

If yes, the first time you went in, was it how you imagined it would be?

As a teenager (15 or 16, can't quite remember) I was dared to walk into a sex shop. I was quite nervous about what I'd find but I was told to leave straight away without really getting a good look around.

I went in one opposite a frozen yoghurt store in Soho last week.

I was chilling with my Snog and my friend wanted to go inside the store... It was errr, interesting?
Half of the things inside there I wasn't sure where up oneself one would put them.

Then, one of the workers came (not that kind) and started explaining what some of the things were for... and I was just standing there, eating my froyo like :o.

The only thing that freaked me out was the Ratty looking individual in an Asda uniform.

Not sure what the issue is here. Where are we all so shy about adult sexual objects?

I don't think I'd manage an actual sex shop. I was incredibly embarrassed about being in Anne Summers.

Used to frequent them in the 80s, first went in them when I was 19, what an Aladdins cave! They were proper dirty sex shops, lol as I lived in a squaddie town.

I've read that they're actually a dying breed, due to a combination of internet competition (I'm told sex shops can't actually send most of their pornographic material through the post) and councils not being particularly fond of them, to the point of charging 4x the license fee than other shops.

I went in one in the eighties to try and buy and what used to be called a 'contacts' mag and it was dark and cramped. The man on the till had a glass eye and was very leery.

The ones in Soho that trick you into thinking they are book shops, then you walk downstairs and there are big black dildos thrust in your face!

Who mentioned being shy, or an "issue"

I was just wondering, if it was how people imagined it would be?

They are there....well I only heard about the 'decent' ones :D which I sometimes visit..

Of course I have been in one, well a proper one about a year ago and got a rather gorgeous corset top from one which fitted me perfectly for more than less half price, £15 reduced from about £45 they were having a good sale on. It wasn't full of dirty books though, mainly stuff for ladies, lotions and potions, huge range of personal massagers etc. :D

I have been in Ann Summers for a look recently, but that's not really a proper sex shop lol, and its waay overpriced, I got a few bits online from other retailers anyway for half the price. Can't afford treats like that now anyway!

Been in a few in Amsterdam when I was in my early twenties...one of them was pretty grim with the video booths..stinking, think I just went in and went back out sharpish!

I think the first time I went into a sex shop I was about 18 and a bit shy. I have yet to see a single guy in a plastic mac in one :) It's mainly couples when I have been in!

As an adult I find this really sad but, when I was about 16 me and a few friends purchased a sex doll as a joke birthday present for one of our friends. Which they would be opening in front of their parents.

Immature and sad really, but as a 16 year old it was "hilarious".

I've not been to the barras in years, but I'm sure it's still there, it's across the road from it.

    Very much so.

It was immaculately clean and tidy, light and airy, and the lady behind the counter was very nice, and easy on the eye.

I been in a sex shop, and everyone always keeps there heads down, and in the uk, the sex shops are out of the way, and seemingly it not right to visit them

where as, when I was on holiday im Munich, the sex shops are on the high street, and the window dispays are very graphic, and children see them, but it cant be a big issue

Even going into a sex shop in germany is a total and different experience, they even have video booths equipped with tissues...for blowing your nose of course:D:D
