big black square on Panasonic TV screen

Blast .. switched on this morning and there is a big black square covering most of the screen... there is an outside bit around the edge of the square where the picture is normal and the picture can be seen just about through the square.

Any one know is this serious or is there a way to get rid,...

TV is 16 months oldn bought from Dixons on the web not the store...

anyone know if the EU law applies to web sales?

Chris Warner, consumer lawyer at Which?, said: 'While it is true that the EU consumer rules mean stores should repair or replace an item that breaks inside two years, the Sale of Goods Act affords consumers protection up to six years from the date of purchase.'

This isnt the big black square you get when there is a digital update, is it?
There have been loads of these lately, turn on the TV and point the TV remote (not any sky remote os similar) and press OK...........if the screen changes to an update DTV process then you are away.
Only point would be, the contrast or pic must be adjusted badly not to be able to see this message.

Have you kept the receipt and what warranty information came with it. Suggest you read the terms and conditions.

Do you have a picture of this? It does sound exactly like Scorp said except for the text missing so try pressing OK.

can you see the menu screen when pressed. If so try 'shipping condition'. Does that clear the screen. If not it's a faulty panel. Unusual tho bcoz pana's are normally very reliable!

Panasonic apparently have huge problems with faulty panels, a dealer we recently talked to is changing 50 panels a week - but he's a VERY large Panasonic dealer.
