I see everyone is saying how the ratings are falling, but we are doing about Mass Media in Sociology and today we were doing TV ratings and in the Top 10 most watched programmes on Channel 4 for last week, BB had 6 slots.
So do people still think Big Brother is still a major part of Channel 4?

Its nothing short of a crime they axed the live feed in these very depressing times its what people want..good old fashioned brain melting TV.
Now if only they would stop selecting the bimbos who only get in because they have large bosoms ...
THERE IS NO MONEY FOR THE ****ING LIVE FEED.
Advertising sales are down right now, so Channel 4 is getting less money, in conjunction with the recession, there's no money left to spend on a Live Feed that only a handful of viewers watched.
no more the point they didnt do what other EU BB's have done
let sky run the feed all they had to do is provide the content
C4 didnt want to share.
Nearly all the other EU BB's have done this and its worked perfectly.
Compared to other commercial stations C4 is flushed with money. That's why they are about to launch major takeovers of other channels.
The life feed is really cheap TV (all the camera footage is already paid for) and it used to provide BB with loads of tabloid/internet coverage which then generated extra viewers for all BB shows (HL & BBLB included).
I wish I could believe that. If anything, it's almost as though they are getting people into the house to'go out' with a real big bang. Almost like they are trying to recreate fight night all over again to bump up viewings and peeps picking up phones and giving away their money on contrived and manipulated nominees.
Claiming there is no money is a lie.
Also they could just charge for it I wouldn't mind paying for an online LF.
No need to swear.
There may be no money for the Live Feed - but then that's because of poor decision making as to where whatever money there was would be spent.
It was more than a handful of people that watched live feed; certainly more than are watching the very poor BBLB. The money spent on the BBLB production (presenter, studio, studio staff, guests) would have been much better spent on Live Feed - for the simple reason that LF did attract more viewers than BBLB currently has, and also because it generated the online buzz on forums and blogs that BBLB doesn't - a buzz that fed countless tabloid stories, which in their turn created a wider public interest.
So true will never get that though.
Just the live feed at all would be great. A 'handful' of viewers seems like underestimating the mass of how many people actually watched it. Probably %70 at least of this forum, then all the people in the crowds with the banners. Plus the ones that just watch it at home and dont post or say anything about it.
They've lost viewers of the HL show by axing the live feed, so they're losing even more money on advertising.
Both these statements appear to be untrue - BB Online did research and quoted a figure of an average 480K viewers for live feed. This story was then taken up by national press - Channel 4 did not refute this figure. Channel 4 reportedly has a 200 m fund (which they wanted to use in the proposed merge with 5), bosses at C4 have very high salaries
And in my op. axing live feed has been a disastrous decision and has led to this year's low average ratings.
If only it would all come out and I hope it does. taking peeps for mugs is not on.
Hey! Don't be mean about Tom
While C4 do indeed have somerthing like a £250m pot of reserve cash built up, they're not exactly on the acquisitions warpath, more forced to look at deals that will bolster their income in order to ensure their survival. If the (presumed) UKTV deal comes off they'll be at best a 50% owner of Dave, Living etc., through acquiring Virgin Media's stake, though recent speculation suggests they may be unwilling or unable to pay the full value of VM's share and will end up as a minority partner in the deal with BBC Worldwide in control.
Yes the cost of the feed itself is pretty low, but you also need the editors and compliance people to be reviewing everything to keep within the Ofcom code, which costs, but more importantly, the daytime Live Feed brings in relatively poor audience numbers for C4, which means selling airtime at lower advertising rates, which means even less money. Repeats of Friends and 'property porn' do better numbers for C4 and bring in more advertising, whether one likes it or not.
Whilst C4's shareholder (the UK Government) may indeed be as strapped for cash as Setanta's backers were, it's really in no danger of collapsing into bankruptcy, though the likelihood of it being a stand-alone PSB in it's present form for more than the next 5 years is pretty slim.
Sometime after switchover it will be merged with ITV or RTL/Five (or both) or sold to a commercial group, and will have a more flexible, reduced, PSB remit.
Does it not register that Endemol actually make the damn thing. CH4's only real involvement is the scheduling and the final proof of endemols final edits (they need to check they meet standards). They haven't been the cause of the previous 2 years shit-fests, thats all down to Endemols complete incompetance. People seem to forget that simply because CH4 decided to cut the live feed this year (i don't think its all down to money, the show shed an awful lot of viewers between BB7 and BB9).
It wouldn't surprise me if CH4 have played a bit of a game with Endemol here. They are due to re-negotiate the contracts soon and a show with an audience of 2m is going to be a hell of alot cheaper than a show with an audience close to 4m. I think it will back, probably with a new, cheaper presenter. Possibly a slightly different format (i fear a move towards the BBUSA format, yuk!!!!). They may bring live feed back, i'd guess red button on digital only though.
 Cough, splutter!
