Journey South were a decent act, at the time, granted not the best singers but they were not bad - they managed a number 1 album with good sales as well. McDonalds were no where near as good, although they probably gained support the more Cowell was rude about them.
MacDonalds did get a number one album on the Scottish charts though but not anything like as good sales as JS overall....
I thought they were terrible. They made me cringe. But hey, that's just my opinion.
My point is neither you nor I can claim to have entirely objective opinion. We're all subject to our own tastes and prejudices and respond to different things in different ways. That's normal.
The difference is that every single Scottish act who does well gets a torrent of people on here who don't personally rate them blaming them doing well on them being Scottish rather than just recognising that we all have different tastes and our own personal taste isn't always going to chime with the majority consensus. The same isn't true of English acts.
All of the names that get bandied about as 'proof' of the 'Scottish vote' have many other things that may have helped them do well. I've already listed other reasons Leon may have captured people's imaginations.
Michelle McManus was the benefit of a strong anti-body-fascism narrative that was spun that particular series that captured people's imaginations. She could also sing (and belt) in tune which probably helped
Jai McDowell quite possibly won because his main competition was an androgynous boy who was being transparently pimped and had been revealed to have been groomed by Syco for a couple of years previous - people were naturally suspicious of that and the fact that he could sing in tune also probably helped. You can dd to that the appeal of 'big macho yet handsome man' being all sensitive, vulnerable and tender...
Stevie was the favourite from the get-go... Lucy made a last-minute dash but fell short of winning over as much support as he'd already garnered through a series of consistent performances throughout the entire series.
My memory of Fame Academy is hazy as I only ever partially watched it, but IIRC David Sneddon impressed with a song he'd written and suddenly became a contender. He was also young, not bad looking and male. That he's gone on to have some decent success as a songwriter suggests his win wasn't entirely unjustified, whatever other factors may have helped.
So, my question is why, when a Scottish contestant wins, does a sizeable contingent on here immediately jump on the 'oh they only won because they're Scottish' as opposed to recognising that the reason people vote for different contestants are varied and complex and subject to millions of people's differing opinions. Suddenly all the other factors get ignored in favour of a reductive (and IMO possibly slightly xenophobic) narrative that being Scottish overrides all the other factors in their favour. It's just belligerent thinking IMO.
It's a solid fact that none of the winners so far have had any form of success. And on most occasions the runners up or someone else in that series have gone on to do better.
This year isn't going to be any different. It's like the public miss the point which is to vote for someone whose records they want to buy
I must have missed these other non-winning contestants who have gone onto have any significant success post-show. Other than Leah I can't even think of anyone who looked like they might.
Has the memo been leaked yet showing that all Scots would be more comfortable will Scottish contestants winning UK talent shows and equating all non-Scottish contestants to planks of wood?
The only decent Scottish contestant was Cameron but was a bad year.
Felt sorry for Shahbaz and Sam - series 7 - what a bunch of bullies!
Goodness how could i have forgotten about Shahbaz...I felt sorry for both of them too, the way Shahbaz was treated made for uncomfortable viewing and Sam was a decent, sensitive person; I remember Grace and Co making fun of her.

Yes Sam did seem decent - what we saw of her - but she was too vulnerable to be a contestant on that cut throat show, as was Shahbaz.

I didn't say significant success. I said gone on to do better than the winner. Bo Bruce from series 1 is another example. Her album charted at number 10. Leanne who won that series managed to achieve a mighty number 134 with her album.
Becky Hill from the same series has had a number one single albeit as a featured artist
I am Scottish and voted for Lucy and I cant stand the SNP. I am sick of some people blaming us for Scottish winners of shows like The Voice they are making themselves look pathetic. Some people need to stop sucking on Lemons it is not a good look.
I'm Scottish too, and i didn't vote for Stevie either. Nothing to do with his nationality. Just didn't like him as a person. Could see right through his shit. Most people wouldn't see him in their way. He's what's known as a wide-o. There's nobody thinks Stevie is as great as Stevie himself. Humble, my arse!!

It's hardly conclusive evidence of anything though is it, one former contestant briefly getting a top ten album? And it's entirely ignoring the biggest factor in whether any of these people go onto sustained success which is the material they get to release. Leanne was never going to get solid support from a record company. That doesn't prove the public got it 'wrong', as such, just that there's many other variables involved in sustained success. You could point to the material. You could point to a disconnect between what the public votes for and what record companies get behind. You could point to more media interest in Bo Bruce generating more publicity, helped by her supposed dalliance with Danny Script. You could point to general media disinterest in the larger woman.
1 Scottish contestant went up for eviction against another Scottish contestant
2 walked
1 ejected
So it's more a case of 9 contestants with 33.3% landing in the top 2 which is a great result.
John also won BB Highjack which increases the success of Scottish contestants even more.

Wrong. People can vote for whatever reason they choose. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people simply vote for the contestant whose voice they like best. What happens after the series is over is not the viewers' concern and certainly not their responsibility,

Yes and the chances of Sandy, Shahbaz and Dennis winning looked really good, didn't they? Having said that Jason got 2nd place so who knows for sure although I will say that being a jungle cat and being associated with Victor - who was a great contestant - no doubt helped him IMMENSELY.
I'll give you Federico as he was quite a controversial character and had he stayed longer may have done well, probably would have done so in a Vote to Save not Vote to Evict.
All to do with his personality though not his nationality.
So in order to disprove the Scottish vote, you highlight someone who finished a pretty close second
I don't see why people are so touchy regarding the issue......Scottish people do well in RTV shows down to a combination of talent and patriotic voting. If the contest is close, the patriotic vote will help them win.
Because English people never, ever benefit from regional voting

They were Scottish though :D

Right the 3 main shows =

Don't you mean "another reality show, another stupid winner"?
As I posted earlier this is inaccurate.

He, he he. votes count. not personal rants after the fact. She was Awsome, he was AWSOMER! (William said so)

You couldn't have.:o It was only the whole of Scotland who voted for him:D
Wonder if it was only the Black vote that got Emmanuel and Sasha to the final also!!^_^
