New train franchises - experience?

I regularly travel the East Coast mainline at least once a month. Always liked it over the past few years under public ownership but now Virgin has taken over. Can't say I've noticed a huge difference yet but they seem to skimp more on the First Class complimentary menu.
Abellio has taken over Scotrail, again not noticed any real change yet in the central belt services but since they also operate Northern I'm not optimistic.
Speaking of which, I hope Northern loses its franchise when it's up for renewal soon, as my experience of its services in the North/Midlands is poor, especially the Sheffield-Lincoln line which is inadequate and uses ancient rolling stock.
