The theme tune to "Holiday '78" or something like that I do believe.

I presume a Paul Hardcastle penned tune replaced this Holiday theme in the mid 1980's.

Wasn't this the first reggae song to top the UK charts?

I think that was The Israelites.

(And Uptown Top Ranking is fantastic..a true classic one hit wonder)

An excellent song, completely ruined by an awful remix in 1988.

I thought it was Jim Gilstrap's brother and expected a soul song back in the day until I saw them. :o

Wasn't Jill Dando starting out and doing OBs for them along with Sue Lawley at about this time?

Jill Dando was only born in 1961. Anne Gregg was around at this time.

Whenever I argue with younger friends that truth that the charts were much better at the very end of the 70s than any time since I pray they don't know this:mad:

Are we quite sure this Wogan bit isn't a sketch from the Kenny Everett Show?:D

Mulligan or O'Hare is so obviously based on Wogan's looks at this time.

From the ridicolous to the sublime.

Two reggae tracks in one show might have been, and might still be, a record for TotP

Thank goodness they didn't do this back then, retrospect is wonderful isn't it! After all, if that had been the case, we might have had no showable old episodes left! I imagine JK is back on the blacklist, after all the furore elsewhere, despite his BBC apology over his 1976 edit out.

JK is definitely NOT on the blacklist - Mark Thompson himself confirmed it when he was DG.

There was always something of a question mark over his conviction anyway.

You get crap in every year though.

It's interesting to take Top 40 charts and work out how many songs you like and compare them with now.

For example I like 12 songs in the Top 40 of this particular week in 1978.

    In the current Top 40 of 2013 I can honestly say that there isn't a single song I like. {Skyfall perhaps comes the closest}
