It may have been before eBay, but free ads papers were booming at the time. I remember selling this kind of stuff for good money. I wish I'd known about this your unfortunate shop - I could have made a fortune re-selling your unwanted goods. Though I'd have been likely to keep some of them!
The problem these days that if you are running a business selling vintage electrical equipment, you could have problems under "elf n' safety."
The worst thing you can do with much equipment, that if it has been untouched for decades, is to "plug it in, to see if it still works."
But there's a market for everything out there. I know of a shop that sells restored vintage audio stuff and actually specialises in restoring vintage valve operated car radios.
