TV to bluetooth headphones

I'm really struggling with this.

I want to connect my Sony Bravia TV to bluetooth headphones and I'm coming up short each time.

1) I tried pairing my headphones with the TV via bluetooth settings. Said "Searching for devices" and did nothing.

2) I got a new pair of headphones, thinking the fault was with the first - no joy.

3) I went to PC World and asked the spotty lad how to do it. I said "Oh easy" and sold me a Logitech Bluetooth audio receiver" and of course, that's a load of bollocks as the TV doesn't recognise that either and youtube video seem to show it's about playing from your phone into speakers, etc.

How the bugger do I get audio from my TV into bluetooth headphones?

First off what model Bravia is it and what model headphones?

Secondly are you 100% certain that the Sony supports Bluetooth headphones and that the Bluetooth is not to play media files on the TV?

Thirdly what on earth possessed you to ask a Currys/PC World muppet about anything vaguely technical!?! You would have got a better answer stopping some random cat in the street and asking that for advice! :D

I hear ya on PC World. Deary me, I should have known better! ;)

TV is SONY - BRAVIA KD55XD8599BU Smart 4k Ultra HD HDR 55" LED TV. I honestly don't know what its bluetooth capability is, other than it has it in the settings (but could be just bluetooth "in" for the remote)

JVC SBT5 Headphones. Pair fine with my iPotato, so I know they work.

I'm thinking I'll need an alternative option, such as bluetooth dongle to plug into the headphone socket (which the Logitech device does, but clearly isn't for TV to headphones).

For some reason couldn't find a manual for that telly on the Sony website. However the specs for the TV say this about Bluetooth
    Version 4.1 HID (mouse/keyboard connectivity)/HOGP (Low Energy device connectivity)/3DSP(3D GLASSES)/SPP(Serial Port Profile)

    https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/televisions/xd8505-series/specifications

No mention there of support for audio over Bluetooth in either direction. So looks like the Bluetooth is only for using a keyboard/mouse or 3D glasses and can't be used with headphones.

So looks like you will not be able to pair any set of headphones to the TV no matter how hard you try. Which means you will need a Bluetooth transmitter such as this

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Transmitter-Wireless-Portable-Adapter/dp/B00PY0O8AO/

to plug into the headphone socket on the TV.

Unless the Logitech receiver can also be used as a transmitter by flicking a switch?

Not sure. Here's the thing on Amazon:

Googling only throws up this for "Logitech Bluetooth"

    http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/product/bluetooth-audio-adapter

Looks like it is receive only. It is the only Bluetooth adapter listed on the Logitech website that I could find.

I'll be taking that back to PC World for a refund and will wag my finger in a disappointing manner if I see the spotty lad ;) Ordered the other option.

Just wanted to thank you for this. Arrived, worked - have bluetooth (and great range!) now sorted! Much appreciated!
