JSA Claim Enquiry

I went to the Job Centre on the 17th for my initial interview and was told my claim was going to be processed and it would take 15-20 days to do that.

Tomorrow will be the 19th day and i've heard nothing about my claim and i'm getting really worried.

I'm constantly applying to several jobs daily so don't tell me to get a job because thats exactly what i'm trying to do.

Since my initial interview i've signed on once and the woman said i'm signed on up until the 29th of June now and my next date is the 13th of July but i've received no money and no letter of confirmation.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Give them a call to see how things are going. They would pay you to 29th as soon as they got your claim sorted, then you would be paid again 13th.
Did you provide everything they needed at your new claim such as bank details, payslips ID and so on? If not they may be waiting on this - they only way you will find out is by speaking to them.

    I gave all the information.

I haven't had a job so I don't have payslips, i've just withdrawn from university for health reasons but i'd withdrawn when i applied.

Its just quite worrying due to it being the 19th day tomorrow.

I have a friend who used to work at a jobcentre a year or so ago and she told me that they hold back the claims of young males on purpose so the males will get naffed off having to wait for their money and take the first job they find. Apparently its because the 16-24 yr old males are the ones who are screwing the system the most and tend to get used to life on benefits and its nearly impossible to get them off.

I know this isnt you but im just saying this is what went on where my friend worked. So you may just have to wait a little longer. When i signed on for first time they said there was a back log and i would have to wait longer than average, as it happens it went through as normal but still...

sorry Lisa but your friend is talking rubbish - believe me I know no way does this happen. For a start not many under 18 year olds can claim benefit as childbenefit is usually still in place and they can't be claimed at the same time. If they do claim there claim goes to a specialist team for under 18 year olds. The 18-24 year olds haven't been on benefit for much of their life compared to some older people. I would say don't believe everything she tells you.

Back to the original poster - I can guess what the delay is. If you have left University they will be checking the finance details of bursaries and getting the original end of year dates and this could be the cause of the delay. It may be a case that if you have had finance to the end of the year you may not get JSA until the official end of the school year

you dont usually get money the first time you sign on generally is the second time from my experiance, if you have your signing book and a next date for signing then you should be fine.

If you were at Uni you would have received your student finance so doubt you will be eligible for JSA

Maybe, if he received funding for this year he will be eligible from July 31st.

Don't ring them form your home/mobile! Go straight into the Jobcentre and use the free-to-use phones there. Saves you a fortune since you will be put on hold at some point.

I'm not surprised that your friend doesn't work there any more.
