I completely agree - and hate idiots who insist on giving their house a name instead of a number.

In the case I cited earlier today, my parents' address, when we moved there in 1964, was

    House Name
    District
    Town
    County

We didn't have a house number or road name for about 40 years, until the council and Royal Mail relented and changed it to

    House Name
    Road
    Town
    Postcode

It was them, not us, who were being difficult about it. And it was an old house in a side road in a small town, so had never had any other address.

Doesn't really apply though when you go down the road and the addresses go:

    1, 3, 5, DunRoamin, 9, 11, 13 (or not), Anothername, 15 etc.

    :D

Its just stupidity - what's easier to find?

    1) 243 Main road.

    2) House name, Main Road.

I think the answer is pretty obvious :D

Admittedly there are occasional address anomalies, but mostly it's people giving a house name rather than their proper number.

To be honest, I came from a small village, and the main street was all house names, there never were any numbers - which is inconvenient, but fair enough - not like having a number but not using it.
