Oh yes, I used to love it. John and his dog Shep out going places and meeting people across the country. The love between him and Shep was clear for all to see in that show. I recall him bursting into deep sobbing when asked about Shep on some chat show, as Shep had just died. It affected him very much.
A sensitive guy but he had balls too. Impossible to imagine a modern day presenter doing some of the unbelievably dangerous things he did on Blue Peter. Anyone remember him climbing up Nelson's Column with no safety rope/harness and having to negotiate an overhanging ladder 170 feet up? Fantastic man and a real 'character'. I remember he was devastated about not being able to keep Shep after his stint on Blue Peter. Really sad to hear he has Alzheimers.
