Sky 1 new drama about a team of London firefighters, sound familiar?

http://www.sky.com/tv/show/the-smoke

They haven't even tried to film it in a different city I wonder if itv might take some legal action.

So, was the bill a rip off of the sweeney?

Londons Burning ended years ago. Why on earth would ITV sue them. The BBC and ITV show cop shows based in the same cities. Doesn't give them exclusive rights to film the subject matter just because it's in a particular city or based on the same or similar law enforcements.

The Sweeney was about two members of the flying squad not the whole members of a police station.

If I had created London's Burning I would be mightily peed off someone else did exactly the same thing 30 years later without even trying to make it look different.

I have a feeling American TV would upset you greatly. "But they already made a show about lawyers, why are there 75 others?"

You do like to get the hump, don't you?
Jack Rosenthal created London's Burning, he died in 2004, maybe his Missus Maureen Lipman has got the hump about this, maybe not.
Maybe Jack got the hump when ITV changed the tone of London's Burning in the later series and ruined it, in many of it's fans eyes?
What's this series then, early or late London's Burning in tone?

Maybe as the writer/creator of a concept you'd be glad see it return in another guise after it's been cancelled for years?

Emergency Ward 10, now Holby City, can't they think of any new concepts :)

Without posting any spoilers, I think you may find The Smoke features one plot twist London's Burning never attempted - and probably with good reason, as it's just about the most un-male viewer-friendly move you could make ...

    Nope.

What a stupid post! Someone with very little understanding of the legal system it would seem.

It's actually not that ridiculous a thread.

Sky have huge amounts of money available yet they've failed - for some bizarre reason - to invest in any wholly funded (i.e. not co-produced) returning drama series. (And I'm not counting Mad Dogs as it was obviously never designed to run and run).

So why they'd opt to do something as apparently familiar as The Smoke is a bit baffling, especially as [1] they failed to go ahead with Utopia, a series they developed which really was distinctive and different; and [2] one of the themes of The Smoke is what it's like to be a man - and yet those in creative control of the show are women.

Actually, I'd say it's more a rip-off of Chicago Fire which, ironically, is shown on Sky Living.

For goodness slake London's Burning ended in 2002.

    No one revived it.
Sure Sky could have gone to ITV and said we want to remake it. Maybe they did and were told to shove off.

Although wasn't there a series about firefighters in Middlesborough or something after LB? Steel River Blues if recall.

Of course what is to stop Sky asking Freemantle to bring back The Bill? Or does ITV have rights to the name? Would it have to be another fictional police station in East London?

And best of all some ignorant people are making judgments on the show before they've even seen it!

Would be grateful if someone could put in spoilers what it says from the Radio Times!

Have looked online, but can't see anything.

    Thanks
