90s pop can be so formulaic and lacking in character, possibly the worst British winner, even if some like it for nostalgia or rate others worse just because they are in earlier styles they don't get.
In Your Eyes is arguably the best Irish entry there's been, it's certainly not bad.
Boom Bang-a-Bang, Save Your Kisses For Me and Making Your Mind Up were terrible songs, yep that's right I think that most of the UK winners were dreadful, Love Shine a Light was the best winner we've had, I don't like Puppet on a String either. As far as I'm concerned We Will Be Free by Frances Ruffelle was the best UK song ever, great song and I think that it deserved to win in 1994.
I do think that Marie N I Wanna is the worst Eurovision winner since the 21st century, Ding Dinge Dong was terrible too. Rock 'n' Roll kids was horrible as well, how it managed to score 226 points I don't know.

I think it's the production and style which is your problem mainly though. They are more smoothly produced later in the 90s but that doesn't necessarily make them better. In fact it can make them sound more plastic or superficial and less real sometimes. Though the Katrina song has parts that are catchy and is professionally done it can lack passion and could be thought a bit plastic. The Ruffelle song is alright, more passionate, but arguably is relatively middle of the road.
I think the best period for British eurovision entries was the first half of the 80s though ironically the one that won was arguably the weakest of those. But that just shows how I don't think you have to judge periods by the winners.
It's got good 80s energy to it, the arrangement is pretty good. The chorus might get repetitive and I guess it's the high pitched nature of the child's voice in the chorus that annoys people.

I disagree with everything you've said here. You couldn't find a more middle of the road sound than our winners from 1967-1981.
Making Your Mind Up would be a crap song no matter what decade it was released in. Save Your Kisses For Me was just as dreadful and shite, Brotherhood of Man were no Abba even though they tried to be them.
My worst one was Dima's Believe in 2008. Such a soppy, try-hard ballad song and I have no idea how it even managed a win. It was possibly one of the fewest times I was angry when I saw the voting results that I didn't even finish it. Secret Combination (Greece) or Shady Lady (Ukraine) was more deserving of a win that year.
Second worst was the 2007 song from Serbia. Having said that though, 2007 had collectively the worst line-up in recent Eurovision history. The only song I managed to really like that year was Belgium's Love Power song and that didn't even make through to the finals! Vampires Are Alive (Switzerland?) was my guilty pleasure and Roger Cicero (Germany) was cheesy but in a good way. The rest were either dull or just plain awful.
Brotherhood of Man were no Abba even though they tried to be them.
They were actually formed before Abba. They weren't as good as Abba though I think the chorus of Save Your Kisses is classic, though the verse can sound very mawkish at times unfortunately. Better song I think is My Sweet Rosalie.
For me it is Maria N for Latvia in 2001, followed closely by Insieme from Toto. I was never a big fan of Love Shine a Light. I have to disagree with people who would nominate in Molitiva, one of my favourites.
Worst ever: Insieme 1990, when i watched the previews, had nothing to recommend it at all.
Second worst: Latvia 2002: clever gimmicks, but the song is terrible
Third worst: Estonia 2001...superior songs were 2nd and third
Fourth: Russia 2008
The weakest winners came from weak years. I do think that when we look back on 2014, that too will be classed as a poor winner, as i think that the quality this year is really low.
I watched the semi final last night, and i had only heard Armenia and Sweden prior to the semi, and there was nothing that stood out as good quality, and Armenia and Sweden were very poor live. 2013 i thought that the standard was very high, but 2014 if they were handing out free copies of cd singles, i dont think id accept a copy of most of yesterdays semi finalists.

Lots of people dislike 'I Wanna' me included but 'Insieme' was terrible too and to think that Italy had two brilliant entries in the 90s, 'Rapsodia' and 'Fiumi di parole'.
Moltiva is the best winner ever IMO , I also loved that a song performed in another language then english won , it's so grating to see so many songs always in the same language win year after year.

Can't believe some people are mentioning Molitva. I thought it was an excellent song, and one of the best winners of recent times.
Also, the bitterness towards Ireland's Eurovision successes by some on here is laughable.

Yeah that grates on me as well!

Serbia 2007, dreary nonsense.
Russia 2008 - Ukraine were robbed.
Azerbaijan 2011 - just, wtf

100% agree it still sounds great today.
I preferred Never Let You Go to Believe and Taken By A Stranger to Satellite.
I hated that at the time too - switched the tv off in disgust when it won - most irritating Eurovision winner ever
They were excellent songs.
Pretty much.
Mia Martini and Jalisse remain Italy's last great entrants.
