Here we go! Can't wait for this - it looks like it's going to be just as good as the first.

Too many nods to the trilogy and the addition of material that doesn't really belong in an adaptation of The Hobbit as it is, not the 1960 Hobbit rewrite that Tolkien decided against writing.
Having said that, it's nice to see Middle-earth again.
Historical fantasy? Im not sure about that.
However the continuing inclusion of trilogy characters who were not in The Hobbit and the endless milking of the LOTR trilogy coupled with side stories and random baseless exposition is annoying.
But yes, it will be nice to see more of ME
He didn't write zero female characters,he just didn't have them in the foreground.
off the top of my head there is
in LOTR Goldberry,Galadriel,Eowyn,Rosie
In the back history there is Luthien,Morwen,Niener
Ps i'm not against seeing the Hobbit in LOTR style, bring it on
You forgot Arwen
I think he means The Hobbit and im pretty sure there isn't a single female main character in the book.
However, the story is about a group of dwarves reclaiming their home, im not sure why its necessary to have any female characters but there you go.
I don't object to the inclusion of a female character as such, more that it just adds to the padding of the story. Im more annoyed by their need to bring characters like Legolas and Galadriel into the films when neither was in The Hobbit.
I hope not. I hope it's better.
oh yeah it did occur to me afterwards they meant the Hobbit
The trailer to the second one looks Awesome!!!
I'm looking forward to watching this one.
Im afraid when all is said and done we know Middle Earth will look awesome and we get to see some more of it.....that's enough for many people to go watch it.....I know it is for me
What format do people plan on watching it in, by the way? Bog standard 2D, Real 3D, IMAX 3D or the full fat IMAX 3D HFR(high frame rate)? Does the HFR add anything to it?
When I saw the Fellowship I immediately wanted to watch it again. I've seen The Hobbit once and honestly I'm not bothered about seeing it again. There's something missing compared to the trilogy.
I saw the first Hobbit film in the full fat IMAX 3D and hated it. Any non-CGI scene such as those at the beginning inside the house looked distractingly like a movie set. The higher frame rate takes away a bit of the illusion and leaves you watching an actor acting rather than the character they are playing. Also the IMAX 3D was really making me feel a bit ill when it got to the scene where they dropped in to the Goblin underworld and were swarmed.
Next time I'm going for the 2D version. It was good enough for the LOTR.
It does look like it to me also, sub plot elven love thing to pad it out another 30 minutes.
But then Jackson is simply playing by the new rules now. Just as Disney, Marvel, DC, Potter and Star Wars are all branching out with cross-platform off-shoots and whatever. This is the new franchise mentality - a step beyond mere sequels. There was a good article a while back about how Jerry Bruckheimer has lost the plot because he can't quite get on the bus with this new way of things.
Doubtless Tolkein will be plundered again once this trilogy is over. I'm wondering though if Smaug may see a dip in takings, as Hobbit didn't seem to be as warmly embraced as LOTR. But then that was a different era.
