I didn't recently the managers of the football clubs were scottish! - I believe the match was Man City V Chelsea

maybe STV been flooded with complaints telling them the Scots DO actually watch English Footy no matter the club :D

Gave up on STV a long time ago. It's an utter embarrassment and should be bought by the Scottish Government and changed into a proper National Commercial TV station for Scotland.

I gave up ages ago I just love how much of a crap channel this has became - the replacements of whats missed is appaling yet they cant even stick to running 2 programmes in a schedule - give up on one less than halfway and the other god knows where - If STV was meant to be Scotland's answer to ITV .... I wouldnt mind if plug was pulled sooner than later!

EDIT: surprised ITV are the ones giving STV the helping hand in doing some repeats ie "Benidorm" (ironic at same time this programme in particular had the "not relevant to scotland" tag when STV couldnt be bothered to show it ... i'll praise ITV not STV!)

Gave up on STV a long time ago. It's an utter embarrassment and should be bought by the Scottish Government and changed into a proper National Commercial TV station for Scotland.

Come on Wavejockglw, you normally speak sense over in the radio forum. :D

How many flaws in one sentence?
    1. It's an utter embarassment? - it shows the vast majority of shows on ITV1 and provides quality, localised Scottish news and a true alternative to BBC Scotland's slightly more middle-class and occasionally twee offerings. During the lows of the Downton Abbey opt-outs etc during the dispute with ITV PLC I'd maybe accept there was an issue, but things have stabilised, surely?
    2. Bought by the Scottish Government? With what money? Broadcasting is reserved to Westminster in any event. And politicians aren't going to scream abuse at a station which is actually producing more local content than it has to. If you want a massive shake-up of broadcasting in Scotland you'll need independence for that one.

It's not perfect by any means, but it shows the vast majority of programmes shown by ITV1 (a situation set to improve after the new agreement on paying for programming) while providing local content that people in many regions in England would kill for. Sounds good to me.

Maybe I'm missing something but can we please have some examples of this kill-for "local content". The truth is that STV 2012 bears no comparison with the STV of the past, which actually made programmes that made the ITV network, as well as lots of local programmes. Sadly, STV seems happy to be a programme provider, rather than a programme maker. And a poor one at that, with some very bizarre scheduling!

BBC Scotland is now streets ahead in terms of original programming, and that wasn't the case in the past.

If STV spent more on original programming than the publicly-funded BBC Scotland I'd be hugely concerned.

STV could spend a lot more in the days when there were only four channels on air and it had that famous licence to print money, nowadays it has to focus on being a commercial broadcaster that can pay its way.

Having said that, it still produces Scottish programming. Yes, I admit the quality is mixed, but people made their minds up about some of them without even watching them. Personally I thought Scotland's Greatest Album was a good watch. In addition, it produces highly localised news programming, with separate shows for Glasgow, Edinburgh and the north, with opt-outs for Aberdeen and Dundee. This is more than the BBC does. And personally speaking I feel Scotland Tonight is punching above its weight - a good reputation builder.

Yes, I'd like to see STV do more in the way of Scottish original programming, but that involves investing a lot of money in a show which might bomb after one episode. There's a huge gamble involved in every show, and getting something to network is even more difficult than it used to be. I'd suggest you'd need full-on independence to tackle the dominance of London-based programming, as the media in general is becoming more and more centralised towards London, and broadcasting is reserved to Westminster.

In the meantime it does more than it has to. It should be applauded for that.

Regarding opt outs I want my STV at 6 back the way it was than "opting-out" irony of it the "opt out" you don't see at again on +1 ... useless to the Dundee viewer (oh yes thats right hop on internet to catch up - nah i'll stick to my LOCAL newspaper for my LOCAL news) plus I don't see point in why Glasgow and Edinburgh get "seperate" news and us in the Grampian area have to find whats happening in either area .... thats why I say we in the old grampian should be reverted BACK to the old setup but I doubt it anyway (plus 5 mins a day on Dundee on STV News in the opt out is crap ... so why have it?)

So you do admit the recent programming STV have provided is cack ... thank you for acknowleging this NOW

As for Scotland Tonight - the programme is like watching a "punch and judy" puppet show ... why not flick over to sky news for "press preview" or BBC "newsnight" - I rather watch these shows than that of the "scottish" alternative

Still waiting on STV to complete programmes they started and have disappeared off radar. But on "applauding" .. I'll give STV an applause for being a shambolic station :D

Also you mention investing .... is it not ironic this is a station that claimed "licence to print money" yet they are in PROFIT and yet cant be bothered spending MORE of it on the quality of its own programming? .... The only thing they blew their money on was to keep "taggart" afloat and where is that now?? (possibly axed quietly) ... and do you not realise that this company has spin off sites that they also make money from? .... Maybe STV should seek advice from SKY on how to spend money on programming at least on SKY they are at least making HALF DECENT shows you can watch ie "Mount Pleasant" is one I have watched and like compare that to something on STV your having a laugh :D

Got to say that BBC Scotland is now streets ahead in terms of quality of programming - the majority of programmes STV produce reek of cheapness. Let's remind ourselves of some of the rubbish they have come out with over the last year:-

THe Hour - a pathetic, desperate "entertainment" show broadcast prime time with "swally loving" Meechelllle. Axed after 4 weeks.

Scotland's Greatest Album - The personification of "cheap tv" - let's stick a few Scots z list "famous faces" in a room and show some clips of artists - wow!

Weather watch with "Shawn" - sorry Sean Batty - Let's tell our weather forecaster to do an extra programme speaking about the er... weather.

Scottish Passport - Resurrect a programme that was popular years ago and waste it now with Grade z Scots telling us about their holiday. Er - times have moved on STV - ever heard of savvy travellers and the internet, or travel agents? These kind of travel programmes are old hat now.

Just some of the examples of the keech STV have served up -so much for Scottish original programming. And no wonder they get very little to network now, when they produce dross like that.

As for their OPT OUT/programming policy don't think it has improved much in the last year - after the diabolical PR shambles of Downton/Doc Martin/Whitechapel etc.. etc... we still haven't got Law & Order, or how about Cornwall or Poms In Paradise - 2 programmes that have disappeared off our screens mid run? Or the new Lewis episodes - 1 shown a couple of months ago, then nothing else. Or how about the missing film premieres - Inglorious Basterds e.g.?? Or the films that are shown 1 week on the network then oddly the following (or never) on STV. I could go on and on....

I'll also add that "incredible stories" on STV .... don't bother creditting them for that. As programme was actually made by National Geographic ... I will say yes it was interesting last night's episode but production overall was cheap .... what did STV do to this programme?? .... I was more annoyed of how it was "done" and I am pretty sure this very programme has also had the "dubbed scottish" edit

If STV are "importing" programming then leave the programmes as they are ... don't go "rebranding" it to suit them and call it something like "STV Documentaries" .... technically this is a National Geographic programme and was not made by STV - so really a documentary made by another channel ... yes where is STV's very own programming ... let me guess they will bring out talk about "Rangers" as a documentary  .... STV should leave programming altogether as they can't make them now but happily import but MISLEAD the viewer to say its their branding....nah sorry STV buck up your ideas NOW (and this is ONE programme i'll credit Nat Geo on but not STV...)

STV do love repeating their own "shows" .... little imagination .... had to laugh at your comment regarding Police Academy you think maybe STV would have changed it to some other Police Academy than the one on ITV4 .... oh well ... I would rather watch it on ITV4 than STV ... expect STV will be running the entire series of films of Police Academy or is this just a one off you reckon??
